Can Tho - A serious landslide has just occurred on the bank of the Cai San River, completely collapsing 4 houses with total estimated damage of about 2.48 billion VND.

According to a quick report from the Civil Defense - Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue Command of Vinh Trinh commune (Can Tho City), at about 9 am on July 24, the Cai San riverbank area passing through the commune suddenly experienced a landslide, with a length of about 35m, eating deep into the bank about 15m.

The landslide directly affected 4 adjacent households, including Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan (born 1962), Mr. Ha Van Non (born 1955), Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Minh (born 1990) and Ms. Doan Thi Nhung (born 1971, owner of Tuan Nhung building materials store).

According to initial statistics, the total value of damage is estimated at 2.48 billion VND. In which, Mr. Tuan's house was damaged by about 300 million VND; Mr. Non's house was about 180 million VND; Mr. Minh's house was about 1 billion VND; Ms. Nhung's construction material store was damaged by about 1 billion VND.

Immediately after the incident occurred, the Civil Defense - Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue Command of Vinh Trinh commune mobilized forces to the scene to support people to dismantle works, move property to safe places, and at the same time implement temporary remedial measures to help households soon stabilize their lives.

Mr. Tran Xuan Phuong - Chairman of Vinh Trinh Commune People's Committee, Head of the Civil Defense - Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue Command of the commune, said that the locality has urgently reported the incident to the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Civil Defense - Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue Command of Can Tho City to monitor and direct handling. At the same time, coordinate with specialized agencies to assess the diễn biến of the landslide area and deploy solutions to ensure safety for people.

According to the Sub-Department of Irrigation (Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City), as of July 7, the whole city has recorded 232 riverbank and coastal erosion points with a total length of about 13.87km, affecting 28 houses, of which 7 houses were completely damaged and 21 houses were partially affected.

Thus, along with the new landslide that occurred in Vinh Trinh commune, from the beginning of 2026 to now, Can Tho City has recorded more than 230 landslide points, affecting 32 houses, of which 11 houses were completely damaged. To date, no casualties have been recorded. Functional sectors continue to monitor high-risk areas and implement solutions to limit damage during the rainy and storm season.
