Quang Tri - Relevant units have agreed on a plan to support the landslide scum farming lake next to the My Thuy port project, but people have not agreed.

Regarding the reflection of aquaculture households in My Thuy village being affected by landslides in snail farming ponds and damaged saltwater wells next to the My Thuy Port Area project that Lao Dong Newspaper has reported, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province has assigned the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board to preside over and coordinate with relevant departments, branches and localities to urgently resolve the recommendations of the people of My Thuy village and report to the Provincial People's Committee before January 9, 2026.

On December 25, 2025, the Quang Tri Provincial Economic Zone Management Board held a working session with representatives of departments, branches, My Thuy Commune People's Committee, project investors and construction units to clarify people's reflections on the construction of the My Thuy Port Area Project affecting aquaculture lakes and saltwater wells.

At the working session, specialized agencies unanimously assessed that the landslide and damage of aquaculture works of people are a combined consequence of many objective factors occurring at the same time. In which, the site clearance of phase 1 expansion of the project is still problematic, slow in compensation and support, causing people not to have time to relocate assets out of the affected area.

In addition, adverse weather conditions, especially heavy rainstorms, waves, and sea level rise, have caused strong erosion in the coastal area. Sand dredging activities serving phase 1 of the My Thuy Port Area project continue to increase the impact, leading to erosion of shrimp and fragrant snail farming ponds and damaging saltwater wells of households.

On that basis, the meeting agreed on a plan for the project investor, My Thuy International Port Joint Venture Joint Stock Company, and construction units including Long Hai One Member Limited Liability Company and FECON Joint Stock Company to coordinate with My Thuy Commune People's Committee to provide support to affected households.

According to the agreed plan, the support level is 10 million VND/salty water well, paid to households with damaged wells according to the list and statistics of My Thuy Commune People's Committee in Document No. 492/UBND-KT dated November 18, 2025, in order to create conditions for people to soon stabilize their lives, production and definitively resolve arising petitions.

On January 7, My Thuy Commune People's Committee said that this unit had organized a working session, informed and mobilized affected households to agree with the above support plan. However, many households did not agree, saying that the support level of 10 million VND per well did not fully reflect the actual damage to aquaculture ponds, remedial costs and long-term livelihood impacts.

Faced with this situation, My Thuy Commune People's Committee will continue to summarize the opinions of the people, report to the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board and relevant agencies to consider and propose appropriate handling plans, ensuring the legitimate rights of the people, and at the same time meeting the requirements of project implementation in accordance with legal regulations.
