On December 18, the People's Committee of My Thuy commune (Quang Tri province) confirmed that it is coordinating with the Dien Sanh Commune Project Management Board to complete a compensation and site clearance plan for 50 households in My Thuy village. These households are within the scope of the My Thuy Port Area project, in which many households with snail and shrimp ponds were swept away by unusual landslides, causing heavy losses in livelihoods.
According to Mr. Le Dac Trieu - Vice Chairman of My Thuy Commune People's Committee, in addition to speeding up the progress of site clearance and relocation of households from the project area, the locality is focusing on handling people's petitions related to support for damage caused by landslides. However, to date, the parties involved have not yet agreed on a specific plan.
Previously, on November 18, the People's Committee of My Thuy commune issued a document proposing to support damage to aquaculture households to My Thuy International Port Joint Venture Joint Venture Joint Stock Company - the investor of the My Thuy Port Area project, along with two construction units, Long Hai One Member Co., Ltd. and FECON Joint Stock Company. The Commune People's Committee requested the units to promptly agree on the support plan and have a written response before November 19 so that the locality can implement the next steps.
However, on December 1, due to not receiving a response, the People's Committee of My Thuy commune continued to issue documents informing that affected households continued to make recommendations. To have a basis to respond to citizens and handle in accordance with regulations, the commune requests the project investor to preside over and coordinate with construction units to urgently agree on a support plan and send a document to the Commune People's Committee before December 4. At the same time, the commune also stated that if the above deadline does not receive a response, the locality will report to the People's Committee of Quang Tri province and relevant agencies for consideration and direction to resolve according to their authority.
On December 4, My Thuy International Port Joint Venture Joint Stock Company sent a document to the People's Committee of My Thuy commune, stating that when receiving information about the losses of aquaculture farmers, the enterprise had contacted the insurance unit to organize an assessment of the damage, determine the cause and value of the loss caused by the construction unit (if any). In case the fault is determined to belong to the construction unit, the investor will request to fix and compensate according to regulations.
"While the support plan has not been agreed upon, people continue to complain, making the situation complicated. Currently, the Commune People's Committee has reported to the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, requesting direction to management units and project construction licensors to take action in resolving the issue" - said the leader of My Thuy Commune People's Committee.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported the coastal landslide in My Thuy village, causing many wells, snail ponds, and shrimp ponds of the people to be swept into the sea. People believe that in addition to natural disasters, unusual landslides are also related to sand dredging activities during the construction of the My Thuy Port project.
