On the morning of May 20, the police of Lai Chau province said that due to the influence of heavy rains in the night of 19.5 until dawn 20.5, at Km25+300 National Highway 4D (belonging to Hong Thu village, Lan Nhi Thang commune, Phong Tho district), there was a serious landslide, causing two -thirds of the road surface to subsidence, landslides - potentially at high risk of traffic accidents.
Facing the emergency situation, Lai Chau Police Department quickly deployed forces, coordinated with functional units to organize traffic flow to ensure safety for people and vehicles, and at the same time serve the troubleshooting.
The three key blocking points have been established: Km25+300, National Highway 4D; Muong So junction, Phong Tho district; Sung Phai junction, Lai Chau city.

All vehicles traveling from Lai Chau City to Phong Tho District and vice versa will travel along Provincial Road 130 to avoid landslides and ensure safety.
Lai Chau Provincial Police also noted that people and vehicles participating in traffic must strictly follow the traffic flow of the authorities; do not arbitrarily enter the dangerous area.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (from 11pm on May 19 to 4am on May 20), Lai Chau province will have moderate to heavy rain.Soil moisture models show that some areas are nearly saturated (over 85%) or have reached a saturated state.
In the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes in the districts of Muong Te, Nam Nhon, Phong Tho, Sin Ho, Tam Duong, Tan Uyen, Lai Chau City; Warning level 1 of natural disaster risk due to flash floods, landslides, land subsidence due to floods or water flow.
Flash floods and landslides can have a very negative impact on the environment, threatening people's lives; causing local traffic congestion, affecting the movement of vehicles; destroying civil and economic works, causing damage to production activities and socio-economic activities.
