On the afternoon of July 16, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province issued Official Letter No. 0691/UBND-NNXD directing urgent action on proactively responding to the developments of landslides and subsidence along rivers and coastal areas in the province.
According to the document, in order to proactively respond to the developments of landslides and subsidence along rivers and coastal areas in the province in the coming time, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment (Standing agency for natural disaster prevention, control, search and rescue in the province), based on the plan to respond to landslides and subsidence according to the level of natural disaster risk in the province that has been approved, instructing commune-level authorities to review, isolate landslide areas, establish safety corridors; monitor the developments of the scene, promptly respond and handle.
At the same time, organize surveys for key areas on landslides, study and select technical solutions for landslide prevention; coordinate with relevant functional sectors to agree on reports and proposals for competent authorities to consider and decide on implementation.

In addition, guide the People's Committees at the commune level to review and update (especially in areas where plans have not been developed), implement plans to prevent and combat landslides and subsidence; guide the completion of the Commune-level Command Committee.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province also directed the Department of Construction to preside over and coordinate with relevant localities and units to review the traffic system according to decentralization; promptly detect and warn of works at risk of landslides and subsidence.
The leaders of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province requested the People's Committees of communes and wards to urgently complete the Commune-level Command Committee; assign specific tasks to each member. Especially strengthen inspection and supervision of areas, especially in vulnerable areas.

Along with that, regularly propagate and instruct people to check, reinforce embankments, and mobilize people to evacuate from dangerous areas.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province also requested localities to review and count landslides and areas at risk of landslides, install warning signs, and stretch warning ropes. Coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to propagate, not allowing people to arbitrarily exploit land in riverbeds and canals illegally; proactively prepare materials and means on site to serve natural disaster response; be ready with support forces when required. When landslides occur, a delegation is established to encourage and visit affected households.
As Lao Dong reported, at the beginning of the rainy season, Ca Mau had landslides everywhere. Many houses collapsed; landslides along rivers and coastal areas... affected people's lives and production.
