The Lang Son Provincial Sports Complex Project is one of the key projects, aiming to turn Lang Son city into a Class I urban area, expected to be an architectural highlight and a regional-scale sports center.
The project includes 11 main items with an area of 29 hectares, including a 4,000-seat multi-purpose gymnasium, a central stadium, an athlete housing area, a training ground system and synchronous technical infrastructure.
The total investment of the project is up to more than 500 billion VND, mainly from the central budget.
According to the plan, this project will be implemented in the period of 2021-2027, with the goal of starting the main items in June 2025 to celebrate the 18th Provincial Party Congress.
On June 9, informing reporters, Mr. Nguyen Manh Duc - Head of the Project Management Department (Lang Son Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board) - said that site clearance is being carried out to ensure the groundbreaking on June 30, 2025.
As of the morning of the same day, since 1997, 4,164 affected households have had their land counted, of which 41 households have had their assets measured and counted in the field.
However, the selection of contractors has only completed 8/16 packages.
Also according to the leader of the Lang Son Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board, as of early June 2025, the total disbursed capital had only reached about 1.19% compared to this year's capital plan, an worrying figure in the context of the approaching construction time.
Along with that, the biggest difficulty and obstacle in the project, according to Lang Son province, is the slow movement of graves due to family background.
Some plots of land have not yet been identified. The progress of building specific land prices is also slow; many households have not coordinated to count according to the plan.

Regarding the site clearance progress, Mr. Duong Xuan Huyen - Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee - said that the Provincial People's Committee has requested the investor to urgently complete legal procedures, coordinate with Lang Son City People's Committee and Mai Pha Commune to carry out site clearance work to start the project in June 2025.
Faced with this situation, the Project Management Board has recommended that the People's Committees of Lang Son province and city direct more drastically. It is necessary to increase human resources for the counting work, speed up the progress of compensation, resettlement support and mobilize coordination from the grassroots government to mobilize people to agree.
According to the reporter's research, the Lang Son Provincial Sports Complex Project was invested to replace Dong Kinh Stadium (Lang Son City) - a long-standing sports symbol of the city, currently in a state of serious degradation.
