Dong Kinh Stadium (Lang Son City), a long-standing sports symbol of the city, is currently in a state of serious degradation. After decades of use, this place will be replaced by a new sports complex worth 500 billion VND.
In mid-May, reporters at Dong Kinh Stadium recorded the deterioration of many items here.
In the stands, the steps are peeling, exposing the rusty steel reinforced layer. Many walls are cracked, sunken and covered with moss. The corrugated iron roof has rotted, while the electrical and drainage systems are temporary and no longer safe.

The surface of the stadium, which used to be a venue for key sports activities, is now only covered with dry burnt grass, mixed with loose soil.
The gray piste road, the lines are no longer clear, many areas have become places for garbage or scrap. Public toilets are damp, seriously degraded, and do not ensure minimum conditions for users.

Under the stands, a series of kiosks and shops for rent from fashion stores, flower shops to tea shops are close together, causing the sports space to gradually turn into a commercial street. Signs and advertisements are hanging around, causing the beauty of the project to lose, making the space shabby and lacking in synchronous planning.

Talking to reporters, a trader said that although Dong Kinh Stadium is still used for major sporting events in the province, the deterioration of the items has made the project unsightly, affecting the beauty of the city.
Ms. Hoang Thi Trang (Van Lang, Lang Son) said: "The Phai Ve Mountain historical and cultural relic cluster and Dong Kinh Stadium used to be the pride of Lang Son people. However, this project no longer meets the requirements for facilities, as well as minimum safety standards for community sports activities".

In that situation, the People's Committee of Lang Son province approved the investment plan to build a new sports complex with a total investment of 500 billion VND. The project will be implemented in Mai Pha commune, Lang Son city, on an area of 29 hectares, including a central stadium, a multi-purpose gymnasium, a sports complex for athletes, a hall and an outdoor sports field system.
The multi-purpose gymnasium alone has a capacity of 4,000 seats, serving indoor sports such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, futsal, etc. The project will use public investment capital from the central and local budgets, invested by the Provincial Construction Project Management Board.

According to information from the Project Management Board, the Contractor Selection Plan for this project has recently been made public, with a total of 16 packages announced. Of which, there are two large construction packages, including construction and installation of multi-purpose gymnasium equipment worth more than 121 billion VND, and a mixed-use design and construction package worth nearly 233 billion VND.
On May 12, Mr. Bui Quoc Khanh - Director of the Lang Son Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board said that the main items of the project are currently in the process of selecting contractors and are expected to start construction in June 2025.
