Parents complain about the quality of milk in school meals
In recent days, many parents of kindergartens and primary schools in Dan Phuong and Hoai Duc districts (Hanoi) have reported problems with the quality of milk in their children's school lunches, causing some children to have diarrhea and gastrointestinal infections.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan, whose child is studying at Duc Thuong Primary School (Hoai Duc), reported that on September 11, she took her child to a local clinic because he showed signs of stomachache and diarrhea.
“After examination, the doctor said my child had an intestinal infection. In recent days, some parents at the school have also spoken out about their children showing similar symptoms to mine and suspect the cause is due to the quality of milk in their children’s lunch,” said Ms. Loan.
According to Ms. Loan, many kindergartens and primary schools in Hoai Duc and Dan Phuong districts have been using milk with the brand name "Nui Tan Ba Vi Yogurt" in their lunches for about 2 years now.
Meanwhile, Mr. The Huynh - a parent whose child is studying at a kindergarten in Hoai Duc district, shared that he and his family feel very worried about their child's health.
“Several urgent meetings between parents and school representatives were held immediately after information about the suspected quality of this milk was spread in parent groups and social networks,” said Mr. Huynh.
Many parents have requested that schools immediately stop providing milk labeled "Nui Tan Ba Vi Yogurt" in school lunches to protect students' health.
Authorities intervene
On social media, a clip about 7 minutes and 30 seconds long posted by parents on September 22, showing a meeting between representatives of the company "Nui Tan Ba Vi Yogurt" and a group of parents from Tan Lap B Primary School (in Dan Phuong district), attracted thousands of views and comments.
In particular, parents of Tan Lap B Primary School raised the issue that some kindergartens in the area wrote the name of the milk in the meal menu and sent it to parents as "Ba Vi Yogurt", but in reality, the children used "Nui Tan Ba Vi Yogurt".
According to parents, this causes many people to confuse it with other reputable milk brands on the market because in fact, "Nui Tan Ba Vi Yogurt" is a rather unfamiliar brand name.
Parents wonder why schools do not choose large, reputable milk companies but choose a strange milk company because this milk producer was only established in 2022.
Regarding this issue, on September 24, speaking with Lao Dong, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Dan Phuong district - Bui Thi Thu Hang - said that currently in the district there are 55 schools, including 10 kindergartens and about 8-9 primary schools using the above mentioned milk.
The unit has received initial information about the incident where parents reported that their children in the area had stomachaches and diarrhea, suspected to be due to using Nui Tan Ba Vi Milk.
“However, up to now, the District Department of Education and Training has not received any information from schools in the area confirming that students vomiting, having diarrhea or being poisoned were due to milk,” Ms. Hang said.
According to the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Dan Phuong district, currently, functional forces including the district police and local authorities have also stepped in to verify the incident.
According to Lao Dong's investigation, as of noon on September 24, many kindergartens and primary schools in Hoai Duc district have stopped providing Nui Tan Ba Vi Yogurt in the school's lunch menu until the results of the inspection are available from the authorities.
Nui Tan Ba Vi Milk Joint Stock Company is located at Bon Village, Van Hoa Commune, Ba Vi District, Hanoi City.
This is a unit that supplies milk products to a number of schools in Dan Phuong and Hoai Duc districts with the website “https://suanuitan.com/”.
According to the Company's announcement on this website, the business has only been operating for 2 years since July 12, 2022.
Notably, the GMP Certificate (one of the important certificates in the food safety management system) of this unit was only issued from September 10, 2024.
