On October 6, a series of strong earthquakes occurred in Mang But and Mang Ri communes (Quang Ngai province), causing severe shaking and damaging the structures of many school buildings.
In Mang But commune, earthquakes of 4.0 and 4.1 caused strong shaking, initially recording damage to facilities.
At Mang But 2 Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, many items were affected by the earthquake.

The tiled roof of the second floor of the school's headquarters was damaged; 4 rooms of 60 boarding students had cracked walls, wall structure and columns were torn.
5 teachers' rooms also have skewed roofs and broken structures.
At Dak Chun school, the two walls and pillars are cracked and broken connections; while at Dak Lanh school, there are two classrooms with broken surrounding walls, posing a potential risk of insecurity.

To ensure living and studying, the school has temporarily arranged for many students to stay in the Fine Arts classroom and reading room.
The school's board of directors requested the People's Committee of Mang But commune to promptly survey and repair to stabilize teaching and learning conditions for students in mountainous areas.
At around 1:29 a.m. on October 6, many people in Quang Ngai felt their belongings shaking due to a Category 1 risk earthquake in Mang Ri and Mang But communes. By noon on October 6, there were 15 consecutive earthquakes during the day.
In Mang Ri commune, there were 4 consecutive earthquakes from over 0:40 to 1:46. According to the Center for Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning - Institute of Earth Sciences, the earthquakes had a scale of 2.6 to 4.9; the focal depth of the impact was about 8 km.
