On February 13, the Department of Foreign Affairs of Quang Binh province announced that projects on overcoming the consequences of bombs and mines in the province have been temporarily suspended.
The US Government has requested that foreign non-governmental organizations receiving funding from the US Government, including the US Department of State and the US Agency for International Development (USAID), suspend operations for 90 days (starting January 25, 2025) for assessment and review.
From here, the Office of Disarmament and Disarmament Affairs under the Political-Military Department, US Department of State - Sponsor of 4 organizations: MAG, NPA, PTVN, CRS to implement projects on overcoming the consequences of bombs and mines in Vietnam in general and Quang Binh in particular, has sent a document to all project implementation partners in all countries requesting the immediate suspension of all activities funded by the US Department of State.
In Quang Binh province, there are currently 4 projects funded by the US Department of State, including: Detection and handling of explosive ordnance in Quang Binh province (phase VII) implemented by MAG; cluster bomb traces survey in Quang Binh province (CMRS) and the project to establish and support a database unit and coordinate mine action activities in Quang Binh province implemented by NPA; detection and handling of explosive ordnance in Quang Binh province implemented by PTVN; and education on mine accident prevention for the community in Quang Binh province implemented by CRS have been suspended immediately (since after the Lunar New Year holiday of the organizations) until further notice.
In Quang Binh, there are also a number of projects being implemented funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that are also affected by the US Government's request for a temporary suspension.
Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, mine clearance programs and projects in Quang Tri province were also suspended for 90 days for evaluation and review.
