Hai Phong - A 1,088-ton ship collided with Phu Luong railway bridge, narrowing about 1/3 of the width of the navigation channel, causing obstruction to waterway traffic.

On July 27, the Department of Construction informed that at about 2 am on July 26, an inland waterway vehicle with registration number HD-2968 (capacity 1,088 tons) encountered a sinking incident at Km69+000 of the Thai Binh River, near Phu Luong railway bridge in Nam Dong ward, Hai Phong city.

Currently, the sunken vehicle is leaning against the pier on the left bank of the navigation channel of Phu Luong railway bridge, narrowing about 1/3 of the width of the navigation channel, causing obstruction to waterway traffic and potentially affecting the safety of the railway bridge project.

Therefore, the Department announces restrictions on waterway traffic on the Thai Binh River to serve the salvage of sunken vehicles until the end of July 31 or until the completion of vehicle salvage, obstacle clearance and new notice from competent authorities.

During the limited time, inland waterway vehicles passing through the area reduce speed to a safe level and increase observation; drive in accordance with the inland waterway signal system that has been established, move according to the guided flow; comply with traffic regulation and control of functional forces at the scene. At the same time, temporarily suspend traffic when requested to serve rescue and salvage work, ensuring absolute safety.

The Department of Construction requests vehicle owner HD-2968 to urgently organize vehicle salvage, remove obstacles and overcome consequences according to the provisions of law. Inland Waterway Maintenance Management Joint Stock Company No. 7 continues to maintain the regulation force, guard and waterway signal system; Hai Phong Inland Waterway Port Authority is responsible for notifying ports, wharves, vehicle owners, captains and vehicle drivers to proactively adjust travel plans, ensuring safety when traveling through the area.
