Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) said that new transport products such as specialized trains and heritage trains are bringing positive results, opening up new directions for the railway industry in exploiting the passenger market.
Specialized trains recorded high occupancy rates, while heritage trains achieved impressive revenue growth. These positive signs are driving the railway industry to continue developing new transport products to expand the passenger market.
From June 26, the specialized train line to transport doctors and nurses of Bach Mai Hospital on the Hanoi - Phu Ly route achieved a high occupancy rate, averaging about 400 passengers per trip in working days. The whole crew rental model not only ensures revenue but also helps shorten travel time for the team of doctors and nurses.
Previously, the Hai Duong - Hai Phong train route serving officials going to work and passengers, after 9 months of operation, has transported more than 170,000 passengers through nearly 400 train trips, with the occupancy rate reaching over 90%.
In the tourism sector, the Hue - Da Nang heritage ship, after being upgraded with products from the end of March, recorded a 11% increase in passenger volume in the first 6 months of the year and a 41% increase in revenue.
Continuing these positive results, the railway industry is researching opening a Hue - Dong Hoi heritage train line, about 190 km long, with a planned travel time of about 4 hours and 30 minutes. The train will include 7 carriages according to the experience model, combining cultural space, OCOP product display area, cuisine and art performance activities.
The train route is expected to connect many famous destinations such as Hue Ancient Capital, Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, Vinh Moc tunnels and Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, aiming to develop inter-regional tourism products.
