On the morning of April 2nd, Japan's Asahi frigate docked at Tien Sa port. Leading the delegation was Colonel Joe Takemasa, Commander of Escort Flotilla No. 2, along with about 220 officers and sailors.
Within the framework of the 4-day visit to Da Nang, the Ship Command team will pay a courtesy visit to the leaders of Da Nang City People's Committee and the Command of Naval Region 3. These activities aim to further strengthen the cooperative and friendly relationship between the navies of the two countries in particular and the two countries in general.
Colonel Joe Takemasa expressed his pleasure to return to Vietnam. He said: "This is the first time the Asahi ship has arrived in Da Nang, but for me personally, this is the second time I have come to this city in 3 years since I was the captain of the Izumo ship. I am very impressed with your development and hospitality.

In addition to diplomatic ceremonies, the Japanese train will participate in many rich exchange activities such as: holding press conferences, ship receptions, sports exchanges with officers and soldiers of Naval Region 3. In particular, the delegation will also spend time laying flowers at the City Martyrs' Memorial and visiting scenic spots and cultures in the locality.
The visit of the Asahi ship takes place when Vietnam-Japan relations are developing well, especially after the two countries upgraded relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in November 2023.
According to the Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs, the visit is not simply a military diplomatic activity but also contributes to strengthening mutual understanding and trust, in line with the policy of promoting defense cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
It is expected that the two sides will organize joint exercises at sea (PASSEX exercises). This is an opportunity for the navies of the two countries to exchange professional experiences, contributing to strengthening trust and mutual understanding.
Da Nang City People's Committee and units such as the Command of Naval Region 3, the City Border Guard Command and relevant departments and branches are actively coordinating to implement reception work, ensuring security and safety and leaving a good impression of the hospitality of Da Nang people to international friends.
