After more than a month of demolition and salvage of the structure of Phong Chau bridge that collapsed on September 9, many components have been brought ashore (right bank of the Red River, through Van Xuan commune, Tam Nong district).
According to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper on the afternoon of November 10, the construction unit has mobilized a sand dredge to the scene to serve the salvage work of the collapsed Phong Chau bridge section currently submerged in the river.
The sand dredger was placed in the middle of the river, about 50m downstream of Phong Chau Bridge on the Red River. Authorities determined that span N6 was sinking below this location.
After many days of being filled by the Red River, span N6 is now deep under a layer of alluvium. Therefore, in order to demolish and salvage this span, the construction unit must mobilize ships to pump sand and alluvium out of the construction area.
According to the representative of the Supervisory Team at the collapsed Phong Chau bridge area (the Supervisory Team was established on September 19 under the direction of the Provincial People's Committee), up to now, the demolition and salvage of span N7 of Phong Chau bridge along with many components, vehicles... have been completed.
"With span N6, about 64 meters long, it is currently filled with nearly ten meters of silt. To demolish and salvage this span, the sand and silt that fills up will have to be sucked away," said a representative of the monitoring team.
