Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee also requested to proactively coordinate with units under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to comprehensively review the current situation of planning, licensing exploitation, management and use of important minerals, including group I and II minerals in the province.
On that basis, assess the shortcomings, limitations, causes and propose solutions and strategies to implement the management and use of high-value minerals for socio-economic development; ensure no loss of resources, no crude exports, no trade-offs with the environment, but also not let resource resources remain idle due to lack of policies, technology or lack of coordination of state management agencies in mineral activities.
Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Cao Van Cuong requested units to urgently inspect, review and report the results to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee before July 30.
According to representatives of the Department of Geology and Minerals, Thanh Hoa Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, the whole province currently has about 215 licensed stone mines, of which 182 mines are operating. From 2024 to now, the Department has conducted a general inspection of stone mining mines in the area, discovered and fined 36 units for violations of exploitation design, with a total amount of more than 6.4 billion VND.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, on May 20, a serious landslide occurred at the foot of a mountain belonging to the stone mining area of Anh Tuan Co., Ltd., Cam Tu commune, Thanh Hoa province.
At the time of the incident, Mr. Lo Van T. (born in 1986), Lo Van Q. (born in 1989) and Nguyen Van N. (born in 1988, all residing in Lao Cai province) were working at the foot of the rocky mountain when suddenly a large volume of soil and rocks slid down from above. The landslide killed all 3 people.
After the incident occurred, the Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee issued a document requesting the temporary suspension of mineral exploitation activities at this stone mine. At the same time, directed a comprehensive inspection of the compliance with legal regulations on mineral exploitation activities, labor safety and environmental protection.
Through inspection, functional agencies discovered that Anh Tuan Co., Ltd. implemented many mining procedures that were not in accordance with regulations. This is also identified as one of the causes of landslides.
