Thanh Hoa urgently overcomes the consequences of heavy rain and floods

Thanh Hoa - Faced with heavy damage caused by floods, functional agencies and local authorities are urgently deploying work to overcome the consequences.

According to the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention of Thanh Hoa province, by the morning of August 29, 4 communes including Xuan Chinh, Yen Nhan, Kim Tan and Bat Mot had isolated residential areas, of which Bat Mot commune was completely isolated. The whole province has evacuated 14,194 households with more than 49,000 people; about 5,000 households in coastal and low-lying areas have returned home when the water recedes.

Initial damage statistics: 2 dead, 2 injured; 756 damaged houses, 11,899 flooded houses; 33 schools, 3 health stations and 6 cultural houses damaged or flooded. In the agricultural sector, more than 21,600 hectares of rice, 4,200 hectares of crops, 1,200 hectares of forest and thousands of trees were damaged; nearly 43,000 poultry and 112 livestock died and were swept away; more than 5,300 hectares of traditional fish farming were flooded.

Regarding infrastructure, the whole province recorded more than 16 flooding points on national and provincial highways; 767 landslides with a volume of nearly 85,000m3 of rock and soil; 366 broken electric poles, 715 power poles tilted, many power lines and transformer stations damaged. The dike system also experienced a series of landslides and leaks, including 9km of Thach Dinh dike being overflowed. By the morning of August 29, the whole province had 66/104 pumping stations in operation with 282 pumps for drainage.

Mobilizing maximum resources to overcome

Faced with the heavy damage caused by storm No. 5 and floods, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province has directed departments, branches, units and localities to urgently deploy recovery work, ensure stable people's lives, restore production and transportation.

The authorities are required to quickly approach isolated areas, focus on relief and supporting people. In the immediate future, the province directs to visit, encourage and support families with deceased and missing people; arrange temporary accommodation, provide food, drinking water and essential necessities for households that have lost their homes, absolutely do not let people go hungry, cold, thirsty, homeless, or lack clothes. For households with unroofed or damaged houses, on-site forces have been mobilized to support repairs to soon stabilize housing.

The education and health sectors focus on repairing damaged facilities, striving to complete before August 30, 2025. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that students should not lack schools, books, and school supplies when entering the new school year; at the same time, ensure that people are not interrupted in medical examination and treatment.

Traffic repair work is given top priority. The landslides and traffic jams must be opened as quickly as possible, ensuring traffic safety, serving relief and travel work for people. In agricultural production, localities urgently deploy measures to drain water, prevent flooding, protect rice, crops and crops with high economic value, minimizing the risk of crop failure.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested sectors and localities to urgently review and count the damage caused by storms and floods, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Budget reserve resources and other support sources must be used promptly, prioritizing poor households, disadvantaged households, policy families and vulnerable groups; at the same time, strictly prohibiting loss, waste and corruption during the support process.
