Thanh Hoa - Before the forecast that river water will continue to rise, the province issued alarm level III on the Buoi River, and alarm level I on the Len and Ma Rivers.

On September 16, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Civil Defense Command said that it had issued warning signs of alarm level III on the Buoi River, alarm level I on the Len River and Ma River, requesting localities to urgently deploy response plans.

Accordingly, at 10:00 AM on September 16, the water level of the Buoi River at Kim Tan hydrological station was at 11.34m, 0.66m below alarm level III.

Forecast from 6 pm to 9 pm on the same day, the water level here is likely to rise to alarm level III, equivalent to 12m and will continue to rise.

The Buoi River is a particularly noteworthy area when the water rises, in which Kim Tan commune has experienced widespread flooding many times. In the flood at the end of August 2025, the Buoi River water exceeded alarm level III, causing 22/48 villages in Kim Tan to be cut off, and many traffic routes to be deeply flooded.

By early October 2025, the Buoi River continued to rise above alarm level III, causing 2,235 households in Kim Tan to be flooded; the locality had to evacuate 1,865 households with 7,685 people to safe places.

On the morning of September 16, 2026, the meteorological agency continued to warn that when the Buoi River flood rises, low-lying areas, riverside areas and residential areas are at risk of flooding.

According to the disaster prevention and control plan of Thanh Hoa province, in 43 years of statistics, the Buoi River has experienced floods above alarm level III for 21 years.

For the Len River, at 2:00 PM on September 16th, the water level at Len hydrological station reached 3.78m, 0.22m below alarm level I. Forecast from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the water level is likely to rise to alarm level I, equivalent to 4m.

On the Ma River, at 1:00 PM on the same day, the water level at Ly Nhan hydrological station reached 8.50m, 1m below alarm level I. Forecast from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the water level is likely to rise to alarm level I, equivalent to 9.50m.

The Thanh Hoa Provincial Civil Defense Command requests the Chairmen of the People's Committees of communes and wards to immediately deploy dike patrols and guards and dike protection according to the alarm level.

Localities must review and prepare plans to ensure the safety of dyke works, especially at key and critical points, culverts across dikes; and proactively plan to evacuate people living in riverbank areas.

Forces are required to maintain 24/24h duty, closely monitor the developments of rain and floods to promptly handle arising situations, limiting the risk of unsafety for the dyke system and riverside residential areas.

In recent days, prolonged heavy rain has caused heavy damage to people and property, pushing many families in many localities across the country into extremely difficult circumstances.
