According to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper on January 6, at the road connecting Cach Mang Thang 8 and Provincial Road 918, the barrier at the roundabout of Vo Van Kiet Street has been removed, allowing vehicles such as motorbikes and cars to move smoothly.
However, the first section of this route right on Cach Mang Thang 8 Street is still barricaded in both directions.
Mr. Hoang Van (Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City) shared that after 6 years, the road connecting Cach Mang Thang 8 and Provincial Road 918 was completed, people in the area as well as outside the area were very happy.
According to Mr. Hoang Van, before this place was very difficult to travel, to go to other areas or transport goods always had to take a detour and it took time. When the road was completed, people on both sides of the road did more business.
Driver Nguyen Hoang Cong Tuan (born in 1986, Cai Rang district, Can Tho city) said that he often drives a truck on this route to deliver goods but encounters many difficulties when moving through the barrier.
“A few days ago, the barriers at the Vo Van Kiet roundabout were removed, making me and many other drivers happy because we can travel conveniently and freely. However, I am also a bit sad because the barriers at Cach Mang Thang 8 Street have not been removed yet, which affects traffic. Therefore, I really hope that the authorities will have solutions to remove the barriers, especially as Tet is approaching, when there are many people traveling and exchanging goods,” said Mr. Tuan.
The road project connecting Cach Mang Thang Tam to Provincial Road 918 has a length of more than 5.3km, started in 2018, with a cross-section of 40m. The project is divided into 3 bid packages with a total investment of more than 500 billion VND.
The project connects important vertical axes of Can Tho City such as: Cach Mang Thang 8 Street, Vo Van Kiet Street, Nguyen Van Linh Street and the final intersection connecting to Provincial Road 918 at Pho Tho Market, Long Tuyen Ward, Binh Thuy District.
When completed and put into use, the project will serve urban development as well as the socio-economic development of Binh Thuy district and the city in general. The road connecting Cach Mang Thang Tam to Provincial Road 918 will also contribute to gradually completing the city's traffic infrastructure system. In addition, when completed, the project will also be a dike line to protect the core area of Can Tho city from flooding and climate change.
