Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Le Duc Tuan - Deputy Director of My Thuan Project Management Board - said that as of December 31, 2024, the progress of the entire Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project reached 56% (Can Tho - Hau Giang section reached 62%, Hau Giang - Ca Mau section reached 53%), after 2 years of construction.
Lieutenant Colonel Vu Hong Quan - Deputy Director of Truong Son Nam Management Board - informed that he is currently in charge of the construction site of the Km49 - Km53 section of the Can Tho - Hau Giang Expressway project. Up to this point, the project is accelerating its progress to complete by the end of 2025. The unit is focusing all its human and material resources to ensure the construction, meeting the requirements of progress as well as quality of the project.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Vu Hong Quan, in terms of human resources, there are about 200 engineers and workers on the construction site, which can synchronously deploy items from bridges, culverts, and weak ground treatment.
In the beginning, the project encountered many difficulties, especially in terms of materials such as sand and stone. Up to now, many places are mobilizing sand resources to serve the work of treating weak ground and some basic sections have been completed.
Currently, about 800m of the route is being treated by CDM. When the site is available, we will immediately start construction, and in the first phase, nearly 4,000m2 has been paved. In the coming time, based on the consideration of factors and conditions, we will continue to pave asphalt concrete to complete the 800m length of the route. In the first quarter of 2025, we will pre-pave all bridge deck locations on the route.
Assessing the quality of the asphalt concrete test mat, Lieutenant Colonel Vu Hong Quan added that from the input material inspection stage, the experimental work to the test mat, all achieved good quality, ensuring the technical requirements of the project.
“At the beginning of the new year (January 2-3), we continued to deploy the test carpet for the remaining C19 and C25 layers. The total length of the route is approximately 800m, and we must cover three layers according to the design,” said Lieutenant Colonel Vu Hong Quan.
Previously, on December 22, 2024, the first 250m of the main route from Can Tho to Hau Giang was paved with asphalt concrete. At the same time, contractor Company 492 also constructed 130m of asphalt connecting Hau Giang to Ca Mau. The asphalt paving marked the transition from roadbed construction to completing the highway surface.
According to Colonel Tran Hai Bac - Director of Truong Son Nam Management Board, after checking the quality, the contractor will lay asphalt concrete on a large scale along the entire route. The project is closely monitored to ensure construction quality.
The Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway is over 110km long, with a total investment of over VND27,500 billion. The project is divided into two component projects including the Can Tho - Hau Giang section (over 37km) and the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section (over 73km). The project was assigned by the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to the My Thuan Project Management Board as the investor, and was started on January 1, 2023.
