Aiming to basically complete the conversion of all buses to green energy by 2030, Hanoi is gradually implementing a roadmap to replace traditional bus routes with electric buses.

People are excited to take electric buses

At the end of January 2025, the event of Hanoi putting into operation 3 electric bus routes, bus numbers 05, 39, 47, attracted the response of the people.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Thao (Minh Khai Street, Hai Ba Trung District) shared: Before, I did not like taking the bus because of the noise and unpleasant smell of gasoline. But after trying bus number 05, I found the bus to run smoothly and had no smell of gasoline. If the quality of the bus is maintained, I am willing to switch to using public transportation.

Not only bus riders, but also traffic participants in Hanoi have responded to electric buses. Mr. Pham Thieu, a motorbike taxi driver, said that Hanoi streets are often congested, especially during rush hour. Every time he rides behind a bus running on old gasoline or diesel, he is extremely uncomfortable because of the noise from the engine and exhaust fumes coming straight into his face. With electric buses, this situation has improved significantly. Because electric buses emit less exhaust, riding next to a bus is less uncomfortable.

Accelerate greening of buses

Sharing at the electric bus opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam - General Director of Hanoi Transport Corporation (Transerco) - the operator of 3 electric bus routes said: In order to implement solutions to overcome traffic congestion and control air pollution in the capital, Transerco implemented the project of converting electric buses for 3 bus routes according to the city's policy in the shortest time.

“Transerco has overcome many difficulties to put into operation 46 electric buses, including 35 medium buses and 11 small buses. The buses are equipped with modern technology such as journey monitoring systems, cameras, stop announcements and support for the disabled,” said Mr. Nam.

Sharing about this issue, Mr. Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, suggested that units accelerate the process of converting vehicles for the public passenger transport system by electric buses in Hanoi. Accordingly, the Departments and branches should soon develop and submit to the City for promulgation a set of unit prices and norms for small and medium electric buses as a basis for bidding on bus routes and implementing the conversion of electric buses according to the roadmap.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Quyen requested Transerco to continue promoting solutions to improve service quality, paying special attention to bus routes using green energy, building a friendly bus image to attract more people to use public transport, contributing to solving the problem of environmental pollution and traffic congestion in the capital.

According to Transerco, the fleet of vehicles put into pilot use this time includes 46 electric buses (including 35 medium-sized buses and 11 small buses). The vehicles include 2 types: 60-seat capacity (24 seats) and 30-seat capacity (18 seats), integrating many modern features, which can be customized according to the requirements of the operating unit.

The electric buses put into pilot use this time are also equipped with advanced technologies such as journey monitoring systems, cameras, stop notification systems and equipment to support people with disabilities...
