On September 7, Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee held a press conference to provide information to press agencies about the socio-economic situation in the first 8 months of 2026 and development orientations for the last 4 months of 2026. Ms. Nguyen Thi Be Muoi - Vice Chairwoman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee chaired the press conference.
According to information at the press conference, the natural disaster situation in the province continues to be complicated, affecting houses, works and people's lives. Among them, landslides are one of the notable types of natural disasters.
The whole province recorded 53 landslide sections and locations with a total length of 2,230m, directly affecting more than 94 households. Damage from landslides is estimated at about 2.64 billion VND.
In August alone, thunderstorms, tornadoes and heavy rain blew off the roofs of 4 houses in Don Chau commune and Duyen Hai ward, causing housing damage of about 100 million VND.

Accumulated from the beginning of the year to now, the total damage caused by natural disasters in the province has been statistically more than 34.56 billion VND. The situation of landslides in many areas continues to raise the requirement to strengthen warnings and proactively respond.
Faced with unpredictable weather developments, the province requests localities to regularly inspect areas at risk of landslides, promptly warn people and proactively develop handling plans to minimize damage.
Localities should also review high-risk areas, especially riverside areas, residential areas and infrastructure works. When abnormal signs are detected, it is necessary to quickly deploy warning and handling measures and relocate people when necessary.
