Time when widespread thunderstorms concentrate in the South

According to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station, thunderstorms will continue in the coming days in the afternoon and evening.

On the afternoon of June 14, monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning showed that convective cloud areas are developing strongly, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning on a large scale in many wards and communes of Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring areas.

Areas with thunderstorms include Tay Thanh, Tan Son, Trung My Tay, Tan Thoi Hiep, Thoi An, Go Vap, Dong Hung Thuan, Binh Thanh, Tam Binh, Di An, Ben Cat, along with many communes in Hoc Mon, Cu Chi, Binh Duong such as Ba Diem, Dong Thanh, Binh My, Phu Hoa Dong, Nhuan Duc, An Nhon Tay, Phu Giao, Bac Tan Uyen...

In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop, causing showers and thunderstorms in the above-mentioned areas, then expanding to many other localities such as Binh Duong, Tan Hiep, An Phu, Thuan Giao, Tan Khanh, Phu Loi, Hiep Binh, Thu Duc, Tang Nhon Phu, along with Minh Thanh, Dau Tieng, Thanh An, Bau Bang, Thai My, Binh Chanh, Tan Nhut, Tan Vinh Loc communes...

Common rainfall is from 5-25 mm, in some places over 30 mm. During thunderstorms, people need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind at level 5-7 (8-17 m/s). Heavy rain in a short time can cause localized flooding in low-lying areas, affecting traffic and daily life.

According to the meteorological agency, the current rainfall pattern is mainly due to the Southwest monsoon operating with medium intensity combined with the Southwest wind convergence zone maintained in the Southern region.

In the next 24-48 hours, a low pressure trough with an axis of about 24-27 degrees North latitude connected to the hot low pressure area to the West will continue to develop and expand to the Southeast, then be compressed and gradually pushed south by a continental high pressure mass from the North.

Above, the subtropical high pressure lowers its axis to the South, operating stably through the South Central and Southern regions. Southwest monsoons maintain weak to moderate intensity, while high-altitude wind convergence continues to exist.

From now until about June 23, the low pressure trough connecting to the hot low pressure area to the West will continue to fluctuate. Around June 20, the hot low pressure area tends to develop and expand back to the Southeast. Above, the subtropical high pressure remains stable, at times gradually encroaching westward before raising its axis to the North from around June 21.

Due to the influence of the above weather patterns, the Southern region continues to experience showers and thunderstorms in some places during the day; especially in the afternoon and evening, there are scattered showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain.

The meteorological agency notes that thunderstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind can cause damage to crops, break down green trees, damage houses and infrastructure works. Prolonged heavy rain also poses a risk of flooding, causing traffic jams and affecting people's production and living activities.
