Regarding the landslide that swept away a passenger bus into the river, Mr. Dam Hai Trieu - Deputy Chief of Office of Cao Bang Provincial People's Committee - provided information to reporters. Accordingly, in addition to the passenger bus (with 20 people on board), there were also 2 cars and about 7-9 motorbikes buried by the landslide and some were swept away into the river.
"At the scene, rescuers found 9 bodies, but it is not yet possible to determine whether they were on the bus or other vehicles. In addition, more than 20 other people are still missing. Rescuers and machines are still trying to continue the search," said Mr. Trieu.
As Lao Dong reported , early yesterday morning (September 9), a passenger car of Viet Trang company was traveling on National Highway 34 from Bao Lam district to Cao Bang city. When it reached Ca Thanh commune, the car was buried by rocks and soil, then continued to be swept away by the stream along the road (at this time there were about 20 people on the car).
After the water receded, the rescue team found the bus about 2km from the landslide scene in Ca Thanh. According to local residents, the bus was crushed, with only the wheels and a few parts sticking out of the water, mixed with dirt and rocks.
Cao Bang province is mobilizing 500 people from many forces of the army, police, militia... to participate in the rescue and search for victims in the landslide areas in Nguyen Binh. The forces are dividing into many directions through forests and streams to continue searching for victims of landslides and floods.
Also in Nguyen Binh district, there are two other landslides with deaths and missing people in villages of Ca Thanh and Yen Lac communes.
The landslide site in Lung Sung hamlet, Yen Lac commune is currently inaccessible due to the large amount of landslide rock and soil that has cut off the roads. Authorities are using excavators to level the road and quickly clear the road to access the landslide area and organize rescue operations.
Regarding the landslide situation, the Department of Transport of Cao Bang province has announced the temporary suspension of all passenger transport activities by bus, fixed-route bus, taxi, and contract vehicle in the province from the evening of September 9.
