According to the report of the Task Force of Border Guard Intermediate School No. 24, by the morning of July 20, functional forces had found the body of the second victim in the flash flood that occurred in Muong Than commune, Lai Chau province.
Previously, flash floods and landslides occurred in Muong Than commune, causing 4 people to go missing.
Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, the Border Guard, military forces, police, militia and local authorities mobilized officers, soldiers and vehicles to deploy widespread searches.
On July 19, the body of a victim was discovered in the hydropower lake area, about 15-20km downstream from the flash flood scene.
By the morning of July 20, functional forces continued to find another body in this area.
Currently, there are still 2 victims who have not been found. Rescue forces are divided into many teams, organizing searches in the flash flood area, along both banks of the stream and expanding the scope according to the downstream flow.
From 6 am on July 20, all 6 nghiệp vụ dogs and officers and trainers of Border Guard Intermediate School 24 were mobilized to the scene.
The working groups focused on reviewing damaged houses, areas of trees, mud and large rocks silted up, and expanded searches along the stream.
During the mission, sniffer dogs are used to detect air sources at suspected locations where victims are trapped.
Areas with suspicious signs are all marked and thoroughly inspected by functional forces and mobilized motorized vehicles to support when necessary.
Despite unfavorable weather and complex terrain, the rescue force still maintained continuous search efforts with the determination to bring the victims back to their families soon.
Notably, Javo and Olas are two experienced nghiệp vụ dogs of Border Guard Intermediate School 24 participating in this search.
Previously, both participated in many large-scale rescue operations such as earthquakes in Turkey, Myanmar, Venezuela and the flash flood in Lang Nu (Lao Cai), contributing to effective support for search and rescue work.
