On December 2, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Do Thanh Tuan - Deputy Director of the Kien Giang Province Social Protection Center - said that last week the Center received P.D.G.H (12 years old) from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ha Tien City under emergency protection. The Center immediately received and screened the child, then brought him to the Orphanage Department for care according to Decree 20.
During the 3-month stay here as prescribed, the Center also implemented the regimes and policies for the child according to regulations such as the food allowance of 2 million VND/month. Every day, the foster mothers (staff at the Center) also tried to take care of the child to help stabilize the child's spirit.
Mr. Tuan informed: "Currently, baby H's health is basically stable, and his spirit is better. We are also trying to take care of him so that he can recover stably, so that after 3 months, if there are relatives, he can go home."
Mr. Tuan also shared that in terms of medical care, the Center has a medical room that provides daily wound care for burn wounds. The child's wound is currently dry, progressing, and new skin is forming. In terms of psychology, the Social Work Department staff provides daily consultation and conversation so that the child can be mentally stable, feel secure when treating the wound, and integrate into play and activities with other children here.
“Baby H’s spirit has improved, he is no longer panicked and scared like before. He is now living normally and playing with other children. H’s younger brother, N.G.B (7 years old), is also being cared for here,” said Mr. Tuan.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported, on November 27, Ha Tien City Police (Kien Giang Province) said they had urgently arrested suspect Nguyen Thi Phuong (52 years old, residing in Cua Duong Commune, Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province) to investigate the act of torturing another person by pouring boiling water on a 12-year-old girl.
Suspect Phuong has been residing in Binh San ward, Ha Tien city since the beginning of November 2024 to sell lottery tickets with two children P.D.G.H (12 years old) and N.G.B (7 years old).
Ha Tien City Police also informed that Ms. Phuong lived as husband and wife with Mr. T (52 years old, living in Phu Quoc City). Children H and B are Mr. T's grandchildren.
Ms. Phuong and Mr. T broke up, so Ms. Phuong took the two children to Ha Tien City to live and sell lottery tickets. Mr. T still sends money to support the two children every month. The children call Ms. Phuong "foster mother".
When there was information that Ms. Phuong threw boiling water on baby H, Binh San Ward Police investigated and worked with related units to help bring the two babies to the Kien Giang Province Social Protection Center for care.
At the police station, Ms. Phuong confessed that because H often lost lottery tickets while selling them, she was beaten. On November 21, she poured boiling water on H’s shoulder and right arm, causing severe burns.
