The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just issued a document requesting to tighten traffic safety and environmental sanitation assurance during the construction of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway expansion project.
Previously, in order to create conditions for construction, from January 2026, the Department of Construction in coordination with the City Police has allowed vehicles transporting materials and machinery to circulate on some roads such as Nguyen Duy Trinh, Truong Luu, Tam Da, Long Thuan, Long Phuoc, Nguyen Xien, Lo Lu.
Traffic time is divided into time slots: from 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 7:30 PM to 7:30 AM the next day.
Every day there are about 17 vehicles operating, including concrete tank trucks, concrete pump trucks and dump trucks, applied until the end of 2026.
However, vehicles carrying materials regularly pull mud and soil out of the construction site, causing pollution, the construction unit has not arranged a car washing system according to regulations, and has not promptly repaired road surface damage caused by the transportation process. Notably, the degradation of the road surface is clearly visible on the Truong Luu route (Long Truong ward).
Faced with this situation, the Department of Construction requests the Southern Expressway Project Management Board and the contractor consortium to urgently rectify and immediately overcome limitations, ensuring that traffic unsafety does not occur throughout the construction process.
The Department of Construction also warned that it will consider temporarily suspending the issuance of traffic permits for transport vehicles if violations continue to recur. At the same time, assigning the Specialized Inspection Department to coordinate with the Cat Lai Traffic Police Team to strengthen inspection and strictly handle violations.
Previously, on April 16, in the area of National Highway 51 toll station, Highway Traffic Police Team No. 6 (Department of Traffic Police, Ministry of Public Security) made a record of fining the construction unit for expanding the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway with a fine of 14 million VND.
The reason is that during the construction process, this unit did not arrange specialized personnel to guide and regulate traffic according to the approved plan. The lack of regulating forces has caused local congestion, posing a potential risk of unsafety on the highway with a large traffic volume.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway expansion project has a total investment of more than 16,000 billion VND, with a length of about 22 km. The starting point is from the Ring Road 2 intersection (Long Truong ward, Ho Chi Minh City), the ending point connects to the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway (Long Thanh commune, Dong Nai province).
The project started in August 2025, and is expected to be basically completed by the end of 2026. For the Long Thanh bridge item, the main bridge part is expected to be joined in December 2026 and fully completed in the first quarter of 2027.
