Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued a plan to organize the groundbreaking ceremony for key infrastructure - transportation projects in the area, to celebrate the 14th National Party Congress.
According to the plan, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Rach Chiec National Sports Area project (Binh Trung ward) will be held on the morning of January 15, 2026, with the participation and direction of central and government leaders and leaders of Ho Chi Minh City.
Previously, at the end of December 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council approved the investment policy for the project in the form of public-private partnership (PPP), BT contract type (build - transfer).
The project has a scale of more than 186 hectares, with a total estimated investment of about 145,629 billion VND.
The investor will mobilize 100% of the capital to build and hand over the entire complex to the State for management and exploitation. Ho Chi Minh City does not pay with the budget but uses the land fund to recover capital for investors. The total project implementation time is about 8 years.
Rach Chiec National Sports Area project is planned with many functional areas, focusing on the cultural - sports area, including a stadium with a capacity of about 75,000 seats, a multi-purpose gymnasium of about 18,000 seats, along with water sports centers, tennis, general sports and other multi-purpose projects.
The project also has an urban service - public functional area with items such as athlete, coach and guest service area; central square; sports hospital; conference - exhibition center.
The public green space is arranged with a system of parks, water surfaces and community living spaces. The technical and transport infrastructure area ensures synchronous connection for the entire area.

Ho Chi Minh City expects Rach Chiec National Sports Complex to become a modern sports center of national and regional level, qualified to host domestic and international professional sports tournaments such as SEA Games, ASIAD, continental and regional championships.
The project also aims to train professional and amateur athletes, serving high-performance sports training, and at the same time meeting the physical training needs of people through an open sports system and public utilities.
In addition to its sports value, the complex is also oriented to combine the development of commercial - tourism - entertainment services, creating momentum to spread the economy of the eastern region of Ho Chi Minh City, forming a new cultural - sports - tourist destination of Ho Chi Minh City.
When completed, the project is expected to promote local economic development, increase investment and sports tourism attraction, contribute revenue to the state budget, and create more jobs, improve income and ensure social security for people in neighboring areas.

On January 15, 2026, Ho Chi Minh City will start construction of Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) more than 11 km long, connecting the city center area with the northwest gateway. The project has a scale of 10 underground stations, one elevated station and one depot, with a total investment of about 57,000 billion VND.
On the same day, in the southern area of Ho Chi Minh City, two projects, Phu My 2 bridge and Can Gio bridge, will also be grounded with a total investment of about 23,185 billion VND and more than 13,201 billion VND respectively.
