The National Highway 22 expansion project has just been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council as an investment policy under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form.
The route is about 8km long, starting at An Suong Intersection (District 12) and ending at Ring Road 3 intersection (Hoc Mon district).
According to the upgrade plan, National Highway 22 will be expanded to 60 m, accommodating 10 lanes. Of which, the 4 lanes in the middle have a design speed of 80 km/h, 6 lanes on both sides have a design speed of 60 km/h.
In addition, the project will build 7 overpasses through 7 intersections on 4 high-speed lanes: Nguyen Anh Thu, Nguyen Thi Soc - Nha Vuong, Le Thi Ha, Tran Van Muoi - Ba Trieu, Ly Thuong Kiet - Nguyen Van Bua, Nguyen Thi Nuoi, Duong Cong Khi - Le Loi.

The National Highway 22 expansion project occupies about 49.25 hectares of land, mainly located in Hoc Mon district with 44.96 hectares, the rest is in District 12.
Of these, 16.6 hectares of land in Hoc Mon district will be cleared, including 8.26 hectares of residential land, 7.34 hectares of agricultural land and 0.94 hectares of public land.
There are 1,362 households in Hoc Mon district whose land has been reclaimed, of which 392 households have been cleared and 970 households have been partially cleared.
The project has a total investment of VND 10,424 billion, divided into three component projects.
Component project 1: Compensation, resettlement support and infrastructure relocation in Hoc Mon district, with a total investment of VND 6,227 billion, using the city budget.
Component project 2: Relocating infrastructure in District 12, with a total capital of 7 billion VND, also from the city budget.
Component project 3: Renovation and upgrading of National Highway 22 under a BOT contract, with a total capital of VND 4,190 billion.

After the investment policy is approved, from the second quarter to the third quarter of 2025, the project will complete the preparation, appraisal and approval of the feasibility study report.
The site clearance phase will take place from the second quarter of 2025 to the third quarter of 2026, after which the project will officially start construction from the second quarter of 2026 and be completed in 2028.
National Highway 22 is a vital route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Tay Ninh, Long An provinces and the Cambodian border area.
After being upgraded, this route will be synchronized with other important traffic projects such as Ring Road 3, Ring Road 4, Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway, creating a complete traffic network for the Northwest area of the city.
