On the morning of June 27, the People's Committee of District 12 held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project to upgrade and expand Tan Thoi Hiep 21 Street - the gateway route connecting the Northwest of Ho Chi Minh City.
The Tan Thoi Hiep 21 road upgrade project has a total length of about 1.7km, located in Tan Thoi Hiep ward.
The road currently has a cross-section of only 6 - 7m, narrow and degraded, often causing traffic congestion and flooding due to the lack of a complete drainage system.
After completion, the road will be expanded to 25m, including 4 lanes, to meet the increasing traffic demand in the area.

According to Mr. Tu Nguyen Duc Bang - Director of the District 12 Construction Investment Project Management Board, the project was approved in November 2016 and adjusted in November 2024.
The total investment is 1,315 billion VND, of which the cost of compensation, support, resettlement and relocation of technical infrastructure accounts for 1,023 billion VND; the rest is construction costs and other costs. The capital for implementation is allocated from the Ho Chi Minh City budget and is expected to be completed in December 2026.
"The project not only helps reduce congestion and prevent flooding but also creates conditions to improve urban aesthetics, improve the quality of life and support local economic development" - Mr. Bang emphasized.
Tan Thoi Hiep 21 Street is considered one of the main traffic routes of District 12, directly connecting two major roads, National Highway 1 and Duong Thi Muoi. Therefore, upgrading this route not only solves local traffic problems but also plays a strategic role in inter-regional connectivity.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Minh Chanh - Vice Chairman of District 12 People's Committee - said: "District 12 is entering a new development stage with the rearrangement of administrative units into 5 new wards. This poses an urgent need for synchronous and modern transport infrastructure to create a foundation for long-term development".
According to Mr. Chanh, the rapid urbanization along with the increase in the mechanical population has put pressure on technical infrastructure - especially traffic infrastructure - to increase.
In that context, the implementation of the Tan Thoi Hiep 21 road upgrade project is a strategic step, on the list of 8 key projects of the district, to solve urgent problems such as congestion relief, improving the living environment and completing the technical infrastructure system.
