This is a key traffic project with a total investment of nearly 400 billion VND, expected to solve the prolonged congestion at the Northwest gateway - which has long been one of the city's traffic jam hotspots.
Tu Dinh intersection is currently the intersection between National Highway 1 (the main artery connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Western and Southeastern provinces) and Nguyen Van Qua Street, an important route of District 12.
For many years, this area has been often congested, especially during rush hour, when the flow of trucks, passenger cars, container trucks and private vehicles flows from many directions. The early completion of the different-level intersection here is considered the "key" to unblocking the entire route.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board), the Nga Tu Dinh intersection project will be implemented in the direction of building a reinforced concrete overpass along National Highway 1 (phase 1).
The bridge and approach road are over 433m long, of which the main bridge is about 239m long and 17.5m wide for 4 lanes. The designed speed for vehicles to cross the bridge is up to 80 km/h.
Not only stopping at building bridges, the project also includes a system of service roads on both sides about 600m long, from 2 to 3 lanes on each side, renovating the radius of turn at the branches to - in the intersection to ensure visibility and traffic safety.
Ancillary items such as drainage systems, lighting, trees and traffic reorganization will also be invested synchronously to increase exploitation efficiency after completion.
The total land use area of the project is expected to be about 2.52 hectares, most of which is uncompensated land (2.36 hectares), the rest is compensation land, site clearance is about 0.15 hectares, affecting 16 households.
The total investment capital of the project is nearly 400 billion VND, of which the construction cost is about 146 billion VND, the rest is for site clearance, project management and contingency.
District 12 is urgently carrying out site clearance to meet the construction progress this year.

The Nga Tu Dinh intersection project was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in 2016. By 2019, the city had arranged capital to prepare for investment, but the implementation was delayed due to the need to adjust and complete the design plan.
By the end of 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will add a public investment plan for 2025 for this project.
The Nga Tu Dinh project is part of the overall plan to upgrade the northwestern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City - the area connecting to Long An and Tay Ninh provinces. In recent years, the city has invested in many important projects in this area.
Since 2020, the An Suong underpass has been put into operation, helping traffic flows between the city center and the provinces to be more airy.
Along with that, Ho Chi Minh City is preparing to expand National Highway 22, the section from An Suong intersection to Ring Road 3 intersection (Hoc Mon) to 10 lanes, with a total investment of more than 10,400 billion VND.
In particular, the 51km long Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway, with a total investment of over VND19 600 billion, is also being accelerated, expected to be completed in 2027.
