Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc has just assigned the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction to urgently complete the preparation, appraisal and approval of investment policies for 3 new roads connecting Tay Ninh province, including: Vo Van Kiet extended road, new Northwest road and National Highway 50B.
Ho Chi Minh City sets a target to start projects in the third quarter of 2026 and complete and put them into operation in the fourth quarter of 2027.
Vo Van Kiet extended road
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the Vo Van Kiet extended road project has its starting point at the National Highway 1 overpass intersection on Vo Van Kiet road (formerly Binh Chanh district area), and its ending point at the border of former Long An province (now Tay Ninh province), coinciding with the starting point of DT. 823D.
The line has a total length of about 14.6 km and is divided into three sections.
Section 1 is about 2.7 km long, from the National Highway 1 overpass to the Tan Tao - Cho Dem intersection (Vo Tran Chi street). This is a section that was previously implemented in BOT form but has not been completed and the contract with the investor has been terminated.

Section 2 is 6.6 km long, from Tan Tao - Cho Dem road to Ring Road 3 of Ho Chi Minh City, in which a synchronous intersection will be built with this ring road.
Section 3 is about 5.3 km long, from Ring Road 3 HCMC to the border of Long An province before.
The road is planned to be 60 m wide, built according to urban main axis standards, design speed of 80 km/h for motorized vehicles and 60 km/h for mixed lanes.
On the entire route, it is expected to build 6 river overpasses, including: Cai Trung bridge, Hung Nhon bridge (section 1); Lang Le Bau Co bridge, Kenh A bridge (section 2); and two bridges over the An Ha - Xang An Ha canal and Kenh A in section 3.
The project will build a complete intersection with Ring Road 3 to ensure interconnection of traffic infrastructure in the western gateway area of the City. The preliminary total investment is nearly 19,400 billion VND.
New Northwest road
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction is also accelerating the preparation of a pre-feasibility study report for the new Northwest road project.
The route is nearly 10 km long, with a scale of 6-8 lanes and will build a complete intersection with Ring Road 3 of Ho Chi Minh City. The total estimated investment is about 18,500 billion VND.
This route will be newly opened from National Highway 1 (section belonging to Ring Road 2 HCMC), passing through Vinh Loc industrial park and connecting with provincial road 823D in Tay Ninh province.

When completed, the new Northwest road will contribute to reducing traffic pressure for the former Hoc Mon and Binh Chanh areas and the Duc Hoa area (Tay Ninh).
The route also helps connect Ring Road 2, Ring Road 3, Ring Road 4, creating momentum for urban development towards the Northwest of the City.
National Highway 50B
The third project is National Highway 50B - a completely new road about 55 km long, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Long An before (now Tay Ninh province) and Tien Giang (now Dong Thap province).
In which, the section through Ho Chi Minh City is about 5.8 km long, starting from Pham Hung street and passing through the former Binh Chanh and Nha Be areas.

The route is invested with a scale of 6 lanes, a cross-section of 40 m wide, and a preliminary total investment of nearly 5,300 billion VND.
When completed, National Highway 50B will share traffic volume with existing National Highway 1 and National Highway 50, contributing to reducing congestion and forming an additional strategic traffic axis connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Mekong Delta provinces.
