The two above routes are included in the Ho Chi Minh City Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, which has just been approved by the Prime Minister.
Vo Van Kiet extended street
Vo Van Kiet Street is 60m wide (6-10 lanes), about 13km long from Calmette Bridge (District 1) to National Highway 1 intersection (Binh Chanh District), located in the East-West boulevard axis of Ho Chi Minh City.
The road was opened to traffic in 2009 and is considered a vital route, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with localities in the key economic region of the South.
According to the plan, Vo Van Kiet Street will be extended to Hai Son - Tan Do Industrial Park in Duc Hoa district, Long An province.
In particular, the extended section in Ho Chi Minh City starts from National Highway 1 to the border of Long An province, more than 12km long, 60m wide, accommodating 8 - 18 lanes.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the project will clear the land once with a width of 60m, but first will invest in phase 1 to build roads on both sides, each road is 14.5m wide (the reserve land in the middle is 31m wide).
The project is expected to be invested in the form of public-private partnership (PPP) with a total capital of nearly VND5,800 billion, of which the budget will participate in about 50%. The estimated cost of site clearance is about VND3,145 billion.
The Department of Transport said that it will soon prepare a pre-feasibility study report and submit it to the competent authority to decide on the investment policy, aiming to implement it from now until 2030.

When completed, this route will solve the frequent traffic jams in Binh Chanh district (HCMC) and Duc Hoa district (Long An) - areas with many industrial parks.
At the same time, this route also reduces the load on the main axis Tran Van Giau - Provincial Road 10, which has high traffic density and is facing difficulties in expansion due to site clearance work.
The route is also connected to Duc Hoa dynamic axis, helping to go to the center of Ho Chi Minh City through Vo Van Kiet street more convenient, while improving the ability to transport goods from industrial parks to important ports in Ho Chi Minh City and Long An.
New Northwest Road
This route is planned to connect from Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 through Vinh Loc Industrial Park (Binh Chanh District), connecting to Provincial Road 823D in Long An Province, with a length of about 9.9 km and a scale of 6 - 8 lanes.
According to estimates by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the total investment capital of the project is about 5,200 billion VND, expected to be implemented under the PPP form before 2030. Of which, the cost of site clearance accounts for about 3,900 billion VND.

When completed, this route will help solve the traffic jams that often occur in Binh Chanh and Hoc Mon districts (HCMC), and Duc Hoa district (Long An) - places with high density of industrial parks.
At the same time, this route will form a radial axis connecting from Ring Road 2 to Ring Road 4, Duc Hoa dynamic axis, contributing to promoting industrial development, convenient transportation of goods from industrial parks to important ports in Ho Chi Minh City and Long An.
