The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for approval a project to exploit road traffic infrastructure assets using the method of leasing exploitation rights.
19 bus stations and parking lots are proposed to lease a part of the area to install electric car charging stations, including: Van Thanh, Saigon, Cho Lon, Dam Sen, Tan Phu, Linh Trung 2 export processing zone, Linh Dong, Hiep Thanh, Thoi An, Hoc Mon, Tan Quy, An Nhon Tay, Le Minh Xuan logistics and technical yards, Tran Dai Nghia street bus route terminal, District 8 Bus Station, Kenh Lo bridge, Can Gio, Cu Chi and Binh Thai.
The total area of these wharves and yards is nearly 110,000 m2, of which the leased area is more than 25,000 m2.
Specifically, four bus stations in District 8, Saigon, Cho Lon and Binh Thai will be equipped with 3 batterie replacement cabinets for electric motorbikes at each station.
The lease of exploitation rights at 19 wharves and yards will be implemented through auctions, with a term of 7 years. The Department of Construction estimates that the total revenue from this form is nearly 180 billion VND in 7 years.
Charging stations will prioritize serving electric buses from 9 pm the previous day to 6 am the next morning, with the CCS2 gate system and open control software, allowing all types of electric buses to be charged.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has 179 bus routes, with 2,112 vehicles, of which 1,301 are electric buses, accounting for about 62% of the total number of vehicles.
In the period 2025 - 2030, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to convert an additional 3,011 oil and CNG buses to electric vehicles, including 1,537 vehicles to replace old vehicles and 1,474 newly invested vehicles.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the Public Transport Management Center is managing 25 bus stations and parking lots serving public transport, with a total area of more than 120,000 m2.
Currently, wharves and yards do not have charging pillars, causing difficulties for transport units in balancing time and battery charging plans.
The installation of charging pillars at these wharves and yards not only relieves infrastructure bottlenecks, but also effectively exploits public assets, creates a stable source of revenue for the budget and promotes investment socialization.
