Ho Chi Minh City organizes an architectural design competition for overpasses and intersections on the Cat Lai - Phu Huu inter-port route, with an investment of nearly 7,400 billion VND.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just approved the competition plan "Architecture plan for overpasses on the main route and overpass items at the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway intersection and Ring Road 3 of Ho Chi Minh City", belonging to component project 2 of the Cat Lai - Phu Huu inter-port route.

The research scope of the Cat Lai - Phu Huu inter-port route exam has a total length of about 5.9 km.

The starting point of the route intersects with Nguyen Thi Dinh street, the ending point connects the intersection between the HCMC - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway and Ring Road 3 HCMC (HLD intersection).

In terms of scale, the bridge section will include: Ba Cua bridge built in 2 units, with a total of 10 lanes (each unit 5 lanes, including 3 main lanes and 2 parallel lanes). Section from Phu Huu port to SP-ITC port builds a 4-lane elevated bridge, connected to low-lying roads at 3 locations. Section from SP-ITC port to HLD intersection builds a 6-lane scale elevated bridge.

At the intersection of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway, the dual trumpet intersection with the Ring Road 3 HCMC expressway remains the same.

Supplementing branches of the inter-port road intersecting with two expressways on the principle of: Prioritizing branches from the inter-port road entering the expressway to speed up the vehicle clearance capacity for the ports; branches from outside into the inter-port road connecting through the parallel road of Ring Road 3 and the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway to reduce speed and concentrate vehicles into the port.

The organization of the competitive examination aims to select the optimal architectural plan, ensure high feasibility, and create a modern and unique highlight for the eastern gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City.

The Cat Lai - Phu Huu inter-port road project has a total investment of about 8.782 billion VND, divided into two component projects.

Component project 1 on compensation, support, and resettlement is about 1,400 billion VND.

Component project 2 to build the road is about 7.382 billion VND.

The project is expected to recover more than 61 hectares of land, affecting 139 households and organizations, of which 20 households must be completely cleared.

According to the plan, site clearance will be implemented from the second quarter of 2026 to the first quarter of 2027. The project is expected to start construction in the fourth quarter of 2026 and be completed by the end of 2028.

When completed, the route will form a specialized traffic axis, directly connecting the Cat Lai - Phu Huu port cluster with the inter-regional infrastructure network such as Ring Road 3, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway and Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway.

Thereby, helping to shorten cargo transportation time, increase traffic capacity, and reduce pressure on existing roads such as Nguyen Thi Dinh, Nguyen Duy Trinh, Hanoi Highway and Ring Road 2 East.
