Ho Chi Minh City is accelerating land recovery from 2,241 households to implement the project to expand National Highway 1 (section from Kinh Duong Vuong to the border of Tay Ninh province) to 10-12 lanes.

On January 30, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction said that the city is accelerating the work of land recovery and clearance to implement the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 1 (section from Kinh Duong Vuong to the border of Tay Ninh province) under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) contract.

Ho Chi Minh City aims to complete compensation payments no later than March 30, 2026 and basically hand over the site before April 30, 2026. This is to ensure the project starts in the fourth quarter of 2026 and is completed and put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2028.

Site clearance work is divided into two component projects.

Component project 1 is implemented in Binh Tan district, formerly, now Tan Tao and An Lac wards, with a total capital of nearly 1,068 billion VND. This area has 101 households whose land has been recovered, of which 61 households must be completely cleared.

Component project 2 is implemented in Binh Chanh district, formerly, now Tan Nhut and Binh Chanh communes, with a total capital of nearly 8,543 billion VND. Here, about 2,140 households are affected, of which 1,761 households are completely cleared.

The total cost of compensation, support and resettlement of the two component projects above is about 9,611 billion VND, accounting for more than half of the total investment of 16,285 billion VND of the entire project.

In parallel with compensation work, component project 3 will upgrade and expand National Highway 1 (section from Kinh Duong Vuong to Tay Ninh border) with a length of nearly 10 km, with a total capital of more than 6,600 billion VND.

The road surface is expanded to 60 m, meeting 10-12 lanes, replacing 4-6 existing lanes.

At the Binh Thuan intersection (intersection of National Highway 1 - Nguyen Van Linh Avenue - Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway access road), the project is designed with 3 floors.

The basement includes two 4-lane two-way underpasses, directly connecting Nguyen Van Linh with the expressway. The ground floor organizes a central roundabout to divert traffic.

The upper floor is an overpass system, including an existing 4-lane bridge and two newly built parallel bridges. In addition, the project also arranges two pedestrian bridges on the expressway access road and Nguyen Van Linh Avenue.

At Binh Dien bridge across the Cho Dem river, the project builds two more parallel bridges, each bridge with 2 lanes, next to the existing bridge with 8 lanes.

National Highway 1 through Binh Chanh area is a vital route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Mekong Delta provinces, and also interconnected with many important traffic axes such as Vo Van Kiet, Nguyen Van Linh boulevards, Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway and Mien Tay bus station.

However, currently this road is only 20-25 m wide, often overloaded, especially during peak hours and holidays and Tet.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the upgrading and expansion of National Highway 1, combined with Ring Road 2, Ring Road 3 and Ring Road 4, will contribute to gradually completing the inter-regional traffic network, reducing pressure on the western gateway and promoting socio-economic development in the Southern area of the City.
