The information was given by Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Binh - Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department (PC08, Ho Chi Minh City Police) - at a regular press conference on the socio-economic situation, on the afternoon of January 8.
According to Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Binh, Ho Chi Minh City is a pioneering locality in deploying dedicated lanes for bicycles, in order to meet the travel and sports training needs of people, and at the same time promote the development of green transportation. This policy has received consensus and support from a large number of people.
However, after the bicycle lane was put into use, although the traffic police force has strengthened propaganda and reminders, there is still a part of motorbike drivers intentionally entering the lane reserved for bicycles, posing a potential risk of traffic unsafety.
In the past week, traffic police have made records and handled nearly 100 violations.
PC08 leaders said that through the reality of traffic organization, functional agencies also recorded some inadequacies and points that are not really suitable.
In the coming time, PC08 will coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction and related units to organize meetings, review, and re-evaluate the entire route to come up with harmonious and effective solutions.
We will study solutions to both ensure traffic order and safety, and protect the safety of cyclists and other vehicles. In which, it is possible to consider installing soft medians in some sections, or organizing traffic diversion according to time frames to suit actual traffic flow" - Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Binh informed.
In addition, the Traffic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police also called on people and press agencies to continue to contribute opinions and reflect inadequacies, and at the same time send images and videos recording violations of entering the bicycle lane for functional forces to promptly handle.

Previously, on December 31, 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction inaugurated a dedicated bicycle lane on Mai Chi Tho street (section from Nguyen Co Thach street to D1 street), with a length of nearly 6 km. This is the first bicycle lane piloted by Ho Chi Minh City.
The road has a width of 2 m, the section crossing the bridge is 1.5 m wide, and the maximum allowed speed is 20 km/h.
The road surface is clearly marked, some sections passing through the bridge and intersection are painted red and brown to increase recognition.
Along the route, 5 public bicycle stations are arranged in densely populated areas such as Sala, New City, Avenue and the area near Mai Chi Tho bus station, creating favorable conditions for people to access and use.
In the near future, Ho Chi Minh City will consider extending the bicycle lane on the Mai Chi Tho axis to Vo Nguyen Giap street, directly connecting to An Phu metro station.
At the same time, the city also researches expanding the network of bicycle lanes into the central area, connecting commercial areas, offices, parks, historical buildings and bus and metro systems.
Some roads being included in the research list include Nguyen Van Cu, Tran Hung Dao, Le Loi, Nguyen Hue, Ham Nghi, Ton Duc Thang, Dong Khoi, Cong Xa Paris, Le Duan...
