Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong no longer have the same name of ward and commune after the arrangement

MINH QUÂN |

HCMC - Before HCMC named Tan Dinh ward and Binh My commune, Binh Duong province chose new names for the merged wards to avoid overlapping names.

According to the plan to rearrange administrative units, Binh Duong province had planned to name Binh My ward after merging Hoi Nghia ward and Binh My commune (Bac Tan Uyen district).

At the same time, Binh Duong province also plans to name the new ward Tan Dinh after merging Hoa Loi ward and Tan Dinh ward (Ben Cat city).

However, Ho Chi Minh City also uses this name for new administrative units. The name of Tan Dinh ward was retained by District 1 (HCMC) after the merger of the entire two wards of Tan Dinh and Da Kao.

In addition, Cu Chi district also decided to name the new area Binh My commune after merging three communes: Binh My, Trung An and Hoa Phu.

Recently, the Provincial Party Committee and People's Council of Binh Duong Province agreed on the policy of rearranging communal administrative units, reducing 91 communes and wards to 36. At the same time, Binh Duong province also adjusted the name of some wards after the merger to avoid coinciding with the name of Ho Chi Minh City.

After merging with Hoi Nghia ward, Binh My commune will be renamed Binh Co ward, instead of keeping the name Binh My as originally planned.

Hoa Loi ward and Tan Dinh ward after the merger will take the name Hoa Loi ward, not using the name Tan Dinh as previously planned.

According to Resolution No. 60-NQ/TW of the 11th Conference, the 13th Party Central Committee, the three localities including Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau will be merged into a single provincial-level administrative unit, with the common name of Ho Chi Minh City.

The new unit's political and administrative center will be located in Ho Chi Minh City.

After the merger, the new Ho Chi Minh City will have a total area of 6,772.65 km2, a population of 13,706,632 people, and include 168 commune-level administrative units (including 113 wards, 54 communes and 1 special zone).

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City is closely coordinating with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces to implement a project to arrange and merge provincial-level administrative units after being approved by competent authorities, ensuring completion and putting them into operation before September 15.

Complete the Congress Documents and the personnel plan for the City Party Congress before September 30, 2025.

Actively and urgently prepare all aspects, complete the organization of the City Party Congress before October 31, 2025.
