In Ho Chi Minh City, District 1 is organizing to collect people's opinions on the project of rearranging 10 existing wards, expected to merge into 4 new wards.
Accordingly, Tan Dinh ward will be established on the basis of consolidating the entire area of Tan Dinh and Da Kao wards today. The new ward has an area of 1.62 km² and a population of about 63,348 people.
In addition to Tan Dinh ward, three other new wards in District 1 are expected to be established are Saigon Ward, Ben Thanh Ward and Cau Ong Lanh Ward.
Meanwhile, on April 14, Binh Duong Provincial Party Committee held a conference to discuss the plan of arranging administrative units at the commune level in the province.
Currently, Binh Duong has 91 communal administrative units, expected after arrangement will remain 36 communes and wards.
Notably, Binh Duong also proposed to establish a new Tan Dinh ward after merging Hoa Loi and Tan Dinh wards (belonging to Ben Cat city).
This will lead to the same situation of the name of Tan Dinh ward if the plan of both Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong is approved.
According to Resolution No. 60 -NQ/TW of the 11th Conference, the XIII Party Central Committee, three localities, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau will be merged into a unique administrative unit named Ho Chi Minh City. Political - administrative center will be located in Ho Chi Minh City today.
Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Home Affairs Vo Ngoc Quoc Thuan said that this morning, the Department of Home Affairs of the three localities will have a meeting to discuss the plan to "transplant" and reorganize the administrative apparatus at the direction of the leaders of the City Party Committee and the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has 22 district administrative units (including 16 districts, 1 city and 5 districts) with 273 communal administrative units (210 wards, 5 towns and 58 communes). According to the draft scheme, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to be 102 communal administrative units.
Binh Duong province, after arranging, is expected to have 36 communes and wards; Ba Ria - Vung Tau province is expected to decrease from 77 to 30 communes and wards.
Thus, after merging three localities, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to have a total of 168 communal administrative units.
This afternoon (April 15), the 39th Conference of the Executive Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee will take place to discuss more deeply about the scheme of arranging and reorganizing administrative units at all levels and building a model of two -level local government organizations.
According to the Department of Home Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, the naming of new communal administrative units after arranging should ensure the following criteria: easy to read, memorable, brief, systematic, scientific, and suitable for the historical, traditional and cultural factors of the locality. At the same time, the name needs to receive the consent of the people in the area.
The name of the new commune -level administrative unit is not coincided with the existing name of any administrative unit of the same level within the provincial or city -city scope, including localities in the process of forming the approved planning orientation.
Encourage the use of old names of administrative units before arranging, or selecting names with historical, cultural and traditional values, loved and supported by locals.
