The above route is included in the Ho Chi Minh City Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, which has just been approved by the Prime Minister.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Chon Thanh Expressway is nearly 55km long, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the two provinces of Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc.
The starting point of the expressway connects to Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, the section passing through Binh Duong. From this point, the access road will be built to the Go Dua intersection (belonging to Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2), with a total length of nearly 9km.
Of which, nearly 2km passes through Ho Chi Minh City, 60m wide, meeting 6 - 8 traffic lanes.
This route starts from Go Dua intersection (Thu Duc City), along Provincial Road 43 for about 800m, then turns right onto Binh Chieu Street (Provincial Road DT 473B) to the border with Binh Duong Province. The project requires land use of about 10.8ha.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the total investment for the project is expected to be 3,300 billion VND, of which the cost of site clearance is about 1,660 billion VND.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport is preparing a pre-feasibility study report and proposing an investment policy for this expressway access section. The project is expected to start construction in 2025 and be completed in 2027.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Chon Thanh Expressway, which mostly passes through Binh Duong province, is nearly 46km long, with a total investment of about 17,400 billion VND under the public-private partnership (PPP) method, BOT (build - operate - transfer) contract type.
The project will completely clear 60m of land and invest in phase one with 4 expressway lanes (the expressway section coinciding with DT 743 road has been invested in building 6 lanes). In phase two, Binh Duong province will continue to invest in completing, increasing from 4 to 6 expressway lanes.
Currently, Binh Duong province is speeding up compensation and site clearance to start construction of the expressway in the first quarter of 2025 and complete it in 2027.
The remaining 7km expressway section passing through Binh Phuoc with a total investment of VND1,474 billion was started by the province in December 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2026.
Currently, cars from Ho Chi Minh City to Thu Dau Mot (Binh Duong) follow National Highway 13 to Binh Phuoc with a distance of about 120km.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Chon Thanh Expressway, when implemented, will help increase transport capacity, trade goods and shorten travel time between localities.
