People are "tortured" by the stench
Mr. Dinh Van Hieu's duck farm located in Trai Moi village 6 (Tien Xuan commune, Thach That district, Hanoi) has been discharging waste into Da Dung lake for many years, causing the lake water to turn black and give off a foul smell.
When the weather is hot, the stench is very unpleasant, many people passing by have to cover their noses and wear masks because they cannot stand the air around Da Dung Lake.
Mr. Dinh Van Hieu - farm owner in Tien Xuan commune said that his family has raised ducks for many years, the number ranges from a few hundred to about 1,000 ducks per batch.
According to Mr. Hieu, his family always complies with environmental hygiene regulations, has a pond to contain manure before it flows into the natural environment, and has built a high fence to prevent odors from spreading.
"In response to people's complaints, the family will install a Biogas system to ensure waste treatment and limit the stench affecting people in the area," Mr. Hieu added.
There is no radical solution yet.
Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Dinh Cong Tuan - Chairman of Tien Xuan Commune People's Committee said that after receiving people's feedback about Mr. Dinh Van Hieu's duck farm, the Commune People's Committee assigned the Commune Police to inspect and handle the matter.
Because the Commune People's Committee does not have enough equipment and expertise to assess the level of pollution (air, wastewater) arising from the livestock farming process of Mr. Dinh Van Hieu's household, it has sent documents to superiors requesting coordination in inspection and handling according to regulations.
On November 4, the People's Committee of the commune and the departments and organizations of the commune and village visited Mr. Dinh Van Hieu's family to propagate environmental sanitation in livestock farming.
Also according to Mr. Dinh Cong Tuan, after listening to the propaganda from the Commune People's Committee and other departments, Mr. Hieu's family committed to allocating funds to build air filtration systems to limit pollution arising from the livestock farming process, so as not to affect surrounding households.
"In the coming time, the Commune People's Committee and relevant departments will continue to monitor and propagate so that Mr. Hieu's family can quickly fix the problem and prevent bad odors from being released into the environment," Mr. Tuan added.
