According to a report from the People's Committee of Lai Chau province, from the beginning of 2025 to now, the whole province has recorded 36 outbreaks of African swine fever in 34 communes and wards, with a total of dead pigs and forced to destroy over 14,000 pigs, with a weight of over 750 tons.
The outbreak of the epidemic has directly affected the province's livestock industry. The report of Lai Chau Department of Agriculture and Environment shows that in the first 10 months of 2025, the total livestock herd in the province reached 359,900, a decrease of 10,100 compared to the same period last year. Of which, the herd of pigs only reached 240,000.
Although the epidemic situation is currently decreasing, with 9 communes having not had any new cases for 21 days and Pu Sam Cap commune has announced that the epidemic is over. However, Lai Chau province believes that the risk of an outbreak is very high due to the changing seasons, decreased livestock resistance...

Faced with the above situation, Mr. Ha Trong Hai - Vice Chairman of Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee recently issued a document requesting localities and units to proactively prevent and control diseases for livestock and focus on promoting the development of livestock production in the last months of the year.
Accordingly, the People's Committees of communes and wards are required to focus on mobilizing local resources to promptly and thoroughly handle outbreaks, not allowing new outbreaks to arise.
Strengthen propaganda to help people change livestock farming methods from small-scale to concentrated farm farming, biosafety livestock farming. Only re-herding is carried out at facilities outside the epidemic area.
In addition, develop a production development plan in the direction of diversification, encourage the development of poultry, water fowl and other advantageous livestock to compensate for the shortage of pork output. Publicly and transparently disclose data on destroyed pigs and support funds for people to monitor.
The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to continue to guide technical measures for epidemic prevention and control; strictly inspect and monitor the conditions for herding.
The Provincial People's Committee also requested the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee to direct member organizations to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to strictly implement epidemic prevention measures. At the same time, strengthen supervision of the implementation of policies to support disease recovery.
