According to Resolution No. 1238/NQ-BTVQH15 dated October 24, 2024 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of district and commune-level administrative units of Thanh Hoa province in the period of 2023-2025, the entire natural area of 82.87 km2, with a population of 101,272 people of Dong Son district, will be merged into Thanh Hoa city.
Along with that, 4 wards of Thanh Hoa city were established: Rung Thong ward, Dong Thinh ward, Hoang Quang ward, Hoang Dai ward; Tan Son ward was merged into Phu Son ward. After the arrangement, Thanh Hoa city will have 47 commune-level administrative units (including 33 wards and 14 communes).
Implementing the Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Thanh Hoa City has approved Plan 1582/KH-UBND. According to this plan, Thanh Hoa City and the newly established wards after the arrangement will officially operate from January 1, 2025.
After coming into operation, the units maintain continuous operation, ensuring effectiveness and efficiency; not disrupting the lives and activities of the people and the production and business of units and enterprises located in the area.
Carry out the work of handing over and receiving the natural area, population size and all related records and documents of agencies, departments, offices and public service units of Dong Son district to Thanh Hoa city; handing over and receiving the natural area, population size and all related records and documents of agencies and units in Tan Son ward to Phu Son ward to ensure compliance with legal regulations, strictness, practicality, efficiency and economy.
On November 26, speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, a representative of Thanh Hoa City's leadership said that to implement the merger, Thanh Hoa City People's Committee and Dong Son District People's Committee both have plans on this issue.
"However, the plan of Thanh Hoa City People's Committee has more specific details about handover, receipt of documents, management, office arrangement... In addition, to coordinate the common work of both units, Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has established a working group to implement the merger of Dong Son district into Thanh Hoa City more conveniently" - informed the representative of Thanh Hoa City's leadership.
