According to Lao Dong reporter's investigation, the project to renovate and upgrade Provincial Road 70, Ha Dong - Van Dien section (Thanh Tri) is in the list of key projects of the city in the period of 2011-2015, approved by Hanoi People's Council at the end of 2011.
In 2013, Hanoi City assigned the Department of Transport to study the expansion of the road surface and intersections on Provincial Road 70, Ha Dong - Van Dien section, under the BT (build-transfer) model. However, by 2021, this route was among 82 BT projects that were stopped.
In March 2024, the Hanoi People's Council passed a resolution to adjust the 2024 public investment plan and the 2021-2025 medium-term public investment plan at the city level, including the project to renovate and upgrade Provincial Road 70, Ha Dong - Van Dien section.
The project is 7.08km long, starting at Van Quan urban area and ending at Tu Hiep intersection in Thanh Tri district. This route is expected to connect with Phap Van - Cau Gie road with Ring Road 3.
Total investment is expected to be more than 5,484 billion VND, from the city budget.
In Thanh Tri district, preliminary statistics show that about 200 households had 41,000 square meters of land confiscated. In Ha Dong district, nearly 200 households were subject to confiscation with an area of about 6,000 square meters of land.
In addition to the synchronous construction of construction items, the project has invested in 3 more bridges on the route, including: Building a new bridge over To Lich River and National Highway 1A, building a new bridge over Hoa Binh River, and expanding To Bridge over To Lich River.
According to Lao Dong reporters, in recent years, the southern area of the city has rapidly urbanized, with many urban areas and high-rise apartments springing up, increasing population density and developing hospital and school systems.
Highway 70 through this area is often congested, especially in front of the gate of K Hospital, Tan Trieu branch 3, the intersection of Highway 70 with Chu Van An Street, and the section passing through To Bridge.
"Provincial Road 70, Ha Dong - Van Dien section, is narrow, with only 2 lanes while receiving a huge number of vehicles every day, so traffic jams are constant and accidents are lurking. I really hope the road will be expanded soon to limit the above situation" - Mr. Bui Huu Nghia (35 years old, Ha Dong district, Hanoi) said.
According to the plan, the project will be implemented in the period of 2024-2026.
Provincial Road 70 is not continuous, divided by main traffic axes, including the sections Van Dien - Ha Dong; Van Phuc - Le Trong Tan; Xuan Phuong (Nga Bridge - Tran Huu Duc) and ending at the intersection of National Highway 32.
In the transportation planning to 2030 with a vision to 2050, Road 70 is identified as the main urban axis, playing an important role in the city's transportation system, connecting with radial and belt axes.
