According to Hanoi Police, the AI camera system has smart features, such as: automatically collecting traffic data, controlling traffic lights in real time to contribute to reducing congestion; automatically setting up an inter-route "green wave" for priority vehicles and convoy vehicles to optimize movement and ensure smooth traffic;

Automatically analyze, detect and record, and support the handling of 28 common traffic violations such as illegal stopping and parking; going against traffic flow; running red lights; not wearing helmets...

Violations are recorded by the system with complete and clear images and clips; sufficient information about the time and location of violations, as a legal basis for handling.

With this new system, the total number of cameras being operated by command and operation centers at the Hanoi City Police level is about 3,000 cameras. In addition, there is also a camera system at the monitoring centers of ward and commune police.

Timely handling of violations, contributing to reducing congestion

According to statistics from the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) - Hanoi City Police, after 1 month of operation (from December 13, 2025 to January 12, 2026), the AI camera system has recorded, reviewed and censored images of 6,351 cases with sufficient grounds to send notices to serve violation handling (cold fines).

Among them, common are errors of not complying with traffic light signals in 4,215 cases (accounting for 66.36%, including 1,962 cars, 2,253 motorbikes); not wearing helmets in 2,053 cases (accounting for 32.32%) and other violations such as stopping and parking in places with no-stopping and no-parking signs, not wearing seat belts.

Along with that, the application of smart traffic light control solutions on streets and buttons installed with AI camera systems has helped the traffic situation have clear changes and efficiency.

Typically, increasing travel speed on one-way roads and reducing travel time from 31% - 36.8%, increasing traffic through intersections from 13% - 18.88%; increasing travel speed on two-way routes with high traffic density, intersections close to each other, many branches, many directions and reducing average travel time from 20% - 25%, increasing traffic through intersections from 8% - 15%", a representative of the Traffic Police Department - Hanoi City Police informed.

In addition to using the automatic AI camera system to record and support handling violations, Hanoi City Police also arranges 24/7 duty forces at the command and operation centers of the City Police and camera monitoring centers of ward and commune police to directly monitor and supervise; promptly detect violations, identify signs of congestion and notify traffic police and order police at the scene to organize handling, prevent violations or divert traffic, guide traffic, ensuring people travel smoothly.

The above results show that the application of surveillance camera systems and AI cameras has been and is showing clear effectiveness, actively supporting functional forces to detect and handle violations in an objective and timely manner and contributing to reducing traffic congestion.
