On February 1st, people living on Vi Ba street (Vung Tau ward, Ho Chi Minh City) said that the situation of wild monkeys attacking and injuring people while exercising on this route is still recurring.
Not only people exercising, but also people living around here were bitten by monkeys causing injuries. Notably, the attacked were mainly women and teenagers, children. I am also a victim and am treating my injuries," said Ms. Thu Truc - a resident in the area.
According to Ms. Thu Truc, the monkey that often attacks people is a male monkey, with a short tail, chained at the neck, walking alone and not in herd. This monkey usually appears around 6 am and 11 am every day, rarely appears in the afternoon, in the area around Vinh Nghiem Pagoda (70 Vi Ba), and often rushes into people's houses in the area. Functional agencies have also surrounded and arrested an individual monkey, but on the morning of February 1st, the situation still recurred.

Faced with the situation of wild monkeys attacking people being reported, in the afternoon of January 31, veterinary forces coordinated with Phu My Forest Protection Department to organize a chase and arrest, using anesthetic to arrest a monkey individual. This individual is a long-tailed monkey, with a metal wire collar on the neck causing scratches and bleeding.
Through this, functional agencies determined that this individual may have escaped or been abandoned by the owner. The change in living environment, along with the impact of metal wires on the neck, made it become aggressive.
Functional agencies will continue to hunt down other wild monkeys showing signs of aggressive attacks on people. The arrested individuals will be handed over to the rescue unit for care and handling according to regulations.
