On October 20, in Thanh Cong commune, Thai Nguyen province held a ceremony to posthumously award the President's Guard Medal to Mr. Phan Van Thanh.
At the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To - Deputy Minister of Public Security awarded the medal to Mr. Thanh's relatives.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Public Security expressed his emotion and deep gratitude for Mr. Phan Van Thanh's brave act. This is a shining example of courage, humanity and responsibility "for the people", a testament to the noble qualities of the force participating in protecting security and order at the grassroots level.
Senior General Tran Quoc To suggested that the locality continue to pay attention and create conditions for the grassroots security forces to better promote their role in ensuring security and order, for the peaceful life of the people.
Also at the ceremony, Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Secretary Trinh Xuan Truong affirmed that Mr. Phan Van Thanh's brave act of saving people is a shining example of courage and noble humanitarian spirit. The authorities need to soon complete the dossier requesting the State to posthumously award him the title of Martyr.
On this occasion, the Ministry of Public Security and Thai Nguyen Provincial Police presented support from the People's Public Security Team foundation; presented the savings books of the Provincial Police; and the Provincial Police Women's Union sponsored the children of Mr. Phan Van Thanh.
Previously, on the morning of October 1, while on duty in the area, Mr. Thanh and 2 local people discovered 3 children swept away by floodwaters. After saving the 3 children safely, Mr. Thanh was exhausted and was swept away by the water and died.
Thai Nguyen province later also posthumously awarded Mr. Phan Van Thanh a certificate of merit.
