Can Tho City People's Committee said that in recent times, the city has coordinated with central ministries and branches to invest in developing transport infrastructure in a synchronous and modern direction. Many key projects have been implemented, initially expanding the space for urban, industrial, agricultural and tourism development in the Mekong Delta.
Currently, important expressways such as Can Tho - Ca Mau, Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang, Lo Te - Rach Soi, An Huu - Lo Te... are being accelerated, aiming to complete about 600 km of expressways in the area by 2026.
There are 9 national highways about 565 km long and a network of local roads and rural transportation of about 20,000 km, meeting the needs of travel and goods transportation.
Regarding waterway transport, there are 16 routes managed by the Central Government with 344 km of inter-regional routes, along with more than 3,600 km of inland routes, playing a transit role in the region.

Can Tho has 72 km of coastline and 177 km of shipping route on the Hau River, connecting the East Sea through the Quan Chanh Bo canal and the Dinh An - Hau River channel. These are two shipping lanes that act as an important sea transport route of the region, serving the needs of sea transportation from the Kingdom of Cambodia to the East Sea. In the near future, they will connect with Tran De international seaport, creating a strong driving force for the development of the marine economy of the Mekong Delta. Can Tho seaport belongs to the group of 5 seaports in the Mekong Delta, with a cargo output of about 12 million tons in 2024.
In addition, Can Tho International Airport is a level 4E airport, with an area of 268 hectares, a runway of 3,000 m, capable of receiving wide-body aircraft and connecting with domestic, regional and international centers.
However, the city believes that the infrastructure has not yet met the requirements of the role of a regional center urban area, and some projects are slow due to land clearance problems, procedures and the impact of climate change.
In the coming period, Can Tho is oriented to develop green and smart transport infrastructure; expand national highways and urban bypasses; upgrade seaport and airport systems; develop public transport; research on the Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho - Ca Mau railway line.
The city also proposed that the Central Government prioritize the implementation of Tran De Seaport and the upgrading of Can Tho International Airport to create momentum for logistics development, marine economy and increase regional connectivity.
