Recorded on September 28 at the XL3 package, section through Thu Duc City, hundreds of engineers and workers are busy constructing the viaduct piers.
After more than a year of construction, dozens of bridge piers have been completed, stretching along the Vinhomes Grand Park high-rise apartment area.
Package XL3, more than 3km long, is one of 5 packages of the elevated road section through Thu Duc City with a total length of more than 13km.
This package started in June 2023 and is currently 32% complete. The remaining four packages, which started in January 2024, are progressing at the following progress levels: XL1 is approximately 12% complete, XL2 is 12.36% complete, XL4 is 9.3% complete, and XL5 is 8.3%.
According to a representative of Dinh An Group Company Limited, the joint venture contractor of package XL3, the project is currently implementing items such as bored piles, weak soil treatment, bridge pier construction and soon to install viaduct girders.
"Although construction is facing difficulties due to the rainy season, we are still trying to ensure project progress," said a representative of Dinh An Company.
The Beltway 3 project through Ho Chi Minh City is more than 47km long, of which more than 13km through Thu Duc City is designed as an elevated road, 4 lanes in phase 1. This route connects from Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, passes through Thu Duc City and ends at Tan Van intersection (Binh Duong province).
According to the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic Works in Ho Chi Minh City, the plan to build an elevated road is to suit the terrain and geological characteristics of the area, while making effective use of land funds on both sides.
This also helps save on site clearance costs, as the elevated route only needs to clear a width of 63m, significantly less than the low-route option.
This elevated road also extends to Tan Van intersection connecting with ICD Long Binh port - the future logistics center area, creating convenience for traffic and operational safety.
One important issue is how this elevated route will connect to the underground transport system?
According to the original plan, this elevated section will only have one other intersection at the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway and one entrance and exit point at the Long Binh ICD port area, along with the Tan Van intersection.
To enhance connectivity and development in the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed investing in additional projects connecting to this elevated road section.
The first project is to complete the Go Cong intersection on Ring Road 3 and the road connecting this intersection to Vo Nguyen Giap Street (formerly Hanoi Highway). The road is 5.9km long, with a total investment of more than VND8,500 billion.
Along with that, the HCMC Department of Transport also proposed to add a connection between Ring Road 3 and Phuoc Thien Street (Long Binh Ward, Thu Duc City). The project will build 4 up and down branches, each branch is 250m long.
At the same time, the area of the intersection of the parallel road of Ring Road 3 with Phuoc Thien Street will be arranged with a 60m diameter roundabout to organize traffic in the U-turn area, turning left/right onto Ring Road 3; building a 4-lane underpass on Phuoc Thien Street; expanding Phuoc Thien Street to 1.8km long. The total investment of the project is about 2,108 billion VND from the Ho Chi Minh City budget.
