Bustling on the billion-dollar road
Nong Ha - Khe Thi road project: DH.75 through Nong Ha commune, Cho Moi district, Bac Kan province is invested by the Bac Kan Province Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, with a total investment of more than 13.2 billion VND. The project is constructed by the Phu Thanh - Cao Ha joint venture, starting in November 2022, with a implementation period of 12 months. The route is about 5km long, expected to make it more convenient for people to travel.
However, according to the reporter's records in March 2025, although the road has just been put into operation, it has appeared to be in a state of disrepair. Many sections of the concrete road surface are peeling, revealing the layer of gravel and rocks lying around below. When it rains, water stagnates on the road surface, increasing the risk of slippery conditions affecting people and vehicles when participating in traffic, especially motorbikes. Notably, this situation is not new to the recent past but has appeared for a long time.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Toan (character's name has been changed), a member of the construction supervision team, said that since the first pouring of the road surface, some sections have shown signs of deterioration and are not guaranteed. He and some people in the team have commented on this issue but they do not understand why the project is still being accepted and put into use.
According to Mr. Toan, there are very few heavy trucks circulating on this route, mainly cars, motorbikes and some small wood trucks. With a not-so-large traffic volume, the road surface deterioration after a short time has made many people wonder about the quality of the project.
Talking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Vu Nhu Hoi - Chairman of Nong Ha Commune People's Committee confirmed that the current status of the above road has deteriorated, some sections of the road surface are peeling, exposing the layer of gravel and rocks below. Faced with the above situation, the People's Committee of Nong Ha commune has sent a report to the People's Committee of Cho Moi district to soon have a plan for restoration and repair.
Waiting for repairs
Mr. Nguyen Van Luc (character's name has been changed), a resident of Ban Tet village, Nong Ha commune, shared that for a long time, people have been looking forward to having a new route for more convenient travel. In 2023, when the project was completed, many people were very excited. However, after a short time, the road surface began to show cracks, peeling, and deterioration.
"Motors pass through peeling sections that are very difficult, when it rains, they are slippery, while on dry days, the road surface is rough, making travel congested, easy to lose control, and posing a potential risk of accidents," said Mr. Luc.
Sharing the same concern, Mr. Hoang Manh Hung, a person who regularly travels on this route, said that at first there were only a few small cracks, but over time, the road surface gradually peeled off, and many sections have now clearly revealed the rock and rock layer below.
"I travel this route every day so I can clearly see how quickly the road deteriorates. I don't understand the quality of the project but it has been damaged after such a short time. If not repaired soon, this road will soon be more damaged," Mr. Hung informed.
Faced with the above situation, people hope that the authorities will soon take action to inspect, re-evaluate the quality of the route and have a solution to ensure safe and convenient travel.
