On November 30, Southern Power Corporation sent an official dispatch to the People's Committee of An Giang province regarding the power outage on November 29, 2025 and implemented investment and construction projects on electricity in the Phu Quoc special zone.
Currently, Phu Quoc special zone is supplied with electricity from two sources: 110kV line 173 Ha Tien - 172 Phu Quoc (with 110kV Ha Tien - Phu Quoc underground cable section) to supply electricity to Phu Quoc 110kV transformer station and 220kV line 220kV Kien Binh - Phu Quoc is temporarily supplying 110kV electricity to Nam Phu Quoc 110kV transformer station.
These two sources have not been connected to a 110kV Circular in Phu Quoc Special Zone, so when one of these two sources of supply is lost, it will affect the power supply.
At 1:45 p.m. on November 29, a 110kV 173 Ha Tien - 172 Phu Quoc power line broke out, supplying power to the 110kV Phu Quoc transformer station, causing power outages in the areas of Duong Dong, Cua Can, Cua Duong, Ham Ninh and the entire northern area of the island.
As soon as the incident occurred, An Giang Power Company leveled the supply so that Phu Quoc special zone could receive electricity from the 110kV Nam Phu Quoc transformer station via the 22kV medium voltage grid. Mobilize large customers with self-operating generators to supply electricity to take advantage of the remaining capacity to serve households, arrange mobile generators to supply alternating electricity.
Up to now, there are still areas that have not been supplied with electricity, including: Cua Duong, Ganh Dau, Bai Thom and Cua Can with about 12,000 customers (25%) without power due to inadequate supply capacity and due to the long power supply distance from the South Island to the North Island.
It is expected that today, it will continue to supply alternating electricity to Cua Duong, Bai Thom and Cua Can areas.
An Giang Power Company has urgently organized an inspection of the 110kV underground section crossing the Ha Tien - Phu Quoc sea. Thereby, it is noted that Thuan Thanh KG Construction Design Consulting Co., Ltd. is constructing a railing in the safety corridor of the 110kV Ha Tien - Phu Quoc underground cable line on the Ha Tien coast. According to initial records, the forced strengthening of the steel piles on the taxiway was the cause of the incident in the 110kV underground cable section supplying electricity to Phu Quoc special area.
An Giang Power Company has conducted an inspection and determined that the 110kV Ha Tien - Phu Quoc underwater cable section has a problem with phase B. The plan is to fix the problem for about 1 month in favorable weather conditions.
To quickly fix the problem of supplying electricity to the special zone of Phu Quoc, the Southern Power Corporation also requested the People's Committee of An Giang province to consider and direct relevant departments, branches and sectors to coordinate in determining the cause and support An Giang Power Company to quickly fix the power grid problem. Strictly handle organizations and individuals who directly cause this incident.
